Based on staff feedback, the university has increased the maximum value on our Cycle to Work scheme to £4,000.
The cycle to work scheme enables staff to make tax and NI savings on the cost of a new bike and safety accessories for their commute to work.
These savings are achieved via salary sacrifice which allows staff to spread the cost of the bike through monthly payroll deductions.
It’s also a great way to support staff to make healthy choices whilst reducing our carbon footprint.
The new change is effective immediately and will enable staff to have access to a wider range of bikes, including electronic bikes.
More details can be found on the Cycle to Work Scheme Employee Hub Page.

During December, PPSC worked with DTS to enable access to Tableau Server beyond the university’s network, while maintaining the security of the data it provides. Staff can now access the university’s Tableau Server without needing to use the VPN or a remote desktop client or needing to be physically on a UoN campus.
The URL is unchanged and is the same wherever you are accessing it from: https://analytics.nottingham.ac.uk
Many thanks to DTS colleagues for enabling this to happen.
As well as being able to use a web browser for access, it is also now possible to use either the IOS or Android Tableau app on phones or tablets. By default, the app will display each dashboard in a mobile-friendly view. If you wish to see the original desktop view you can select ‘Desktop Layout’ from the menu within the app. Over time select dashboards may be redesigned to optimise the mobile view.
To download the IOS app go to the App Store on your device or go here.
To download the Android app go to the Play Store on your device or go here.
Signing in to Tableau Server now occurs through Microsoft authentication. This is the same authentication mechanism as you now use to access Office 365. When you go to the URL you may be taken to the UoN sign-in page to add your username and password. This authenticates you with the university.
Tableau Server has been upgraded to version 2021.2. While this upgrade does not change the experience of using Tableau Server for most users, it will allow us to take advantage of some new features. Key among these is a feature which will help us to curate the currently available content, helping end users find the information they are interested in more easily.
If you wish to discuss any of the topics or information above, please contact the team.
Alternatively, if you would like to communicate through Teams, please contact James Storey (brzjds).

Getting tested regularly is an important step in ensuring that the wider university community is safe.
From Monday 14 March 2022, in addition to our saliva based testing, the university will be providing free lateral flow device (LFD) test kits available from the following collection sites:
University Park: Portland Welcome Zone – C floor
University Park: David Ross Sports Village main foyer
Jubilee Campus: Advanced Manufacturing Building
Sutton Bonington campus: The Barn
Each person can collect 3 boxes containing seven kits and no pre-booking is required. Kits are available to collect until Thursday 31 March 2022. If you are unable to visit one of the university collection points, tests can also be ordered via the government website for home delivery.
When you do your own test, you must report the results online via the government portal. Please don’t attend campus if you are showing any Covid-19 symptoms. Although there is no longer a legal requirement to do so, we expect and strongly recommend those who test positive for Covid-19 continue to self-isolate for a period of five days.
For any questions, please contact the testing team at testingservice@nottingham.ac.uk.

The University and College Union (UCU) has announced that industrial action will take place at 68 universities, including the University of Nottingham during late March 2022.
Strike action will take place for five days across w/c 28 March, with continuing action short of a strike, where staff work to contract and do not undertake voluntary activity.
The university recognises that any period of industrial action will be challenging, appreciates that colleagues do not undertake industrial action lightly and respects their right to participate. We also recognise that students will be concerned about the potential impact of industrial action on their studies and the university will work to minimise this.
The university has published staff information about the industrial action as well as student FAQs and we will keep staff and students updated with information. For further information, please visit:

The university is now continuing its journey to adopt new storage solutions.
The Strategic File Storage project (announced in 2019 and put on hold in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic) has now resumed. Last year the focus was on the migration of Z: drive to OneDrive and the relocation of the X: drive (Application data). This work was successfully completed.
This spring, the project is moving onto the continued relocation of S: and R: drives with the aim of moving data to Microsoft 365 where possible. We are currently in the process of reviewing user guidance, setting up engagement conversations and arranging a series of workshops.
In April, we will communicate how and where to move data along with workshop dates.
Using Microsoft to store data offers us:
We will also be using this opportunity to improve data management and encourage teams to review and delete data that is no longer needed. This will help the university in our GDPR compliance.
The target date to complete this work is by Sunday 31 July 2022.
We acknowledge there will be use cases and specific requirements for keeping some on-site storage solutions. If teams are aware of a reason to retain access to the File Store, we’d kindly ask that you inform the project team by filling in this Microsoft Form.
Further communications will be issued in April along with user guidance and the opportunity to ask our specialists questions and seek support.

The university is seeking your views on the wellbeing resources that we have available and how easily they can be accessed when you need them.
As we emerge from the pandemic and our personal wellbeing continues to be challenged like never before, it is important that all staff are aware of the resources that are in place to provide support and that these resources are suitable.
We recognise that there are many far reaching influences on our wellbeing, work itself being one of them, and these resources themselves cannot resolve some of the influences that challenge our wellbeing and may lead us to seek support, but they can help.
This survey gives you the opportunity to tell us what you think about the content, quality and ease of access of the wellbeing resources available to staff and where you think we can make positive changes that will help support your wellbeing.
The university is committed to driving change during this recovery period and this survey is one of the first steps. Feedback received will be used to inform one element of a wider university action plan for staff wellbeing overseen by Professor Katherine Linehan, Pro Vice-Chancellor for EDI & People.
It should take about 5-10 minutes to complete and all responses submitted will be anonymous.

As chair of Covid-19 Immunisation on the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), Professor Lim has acted as an independent advisor to the government regarding the Covid-19 vaccine programme.
The Moxon Medal was founded in memory of Dr Walter Moxon, a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Croonian Lecturer of the Royal College, who practised, taught and researched medicine at Guy’s Hospital in London.
The awards were established following Dr Moxon’s death in 1886 and the gold medal’s notable recipients include William Jenner and Alexander Fleming.
Professor Lim said: “The award was totally unexpected and to join such illustrious company is truly humbling. This honour is also a welcome opportunity to express my sincere gratitude for the support and dedication of my outstanding colleagues in clinical and academic medicine.”

Staff and students at both the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, and residents across Nottinghamshire are being encouraged to join together and help save 120,000kg carbon emissions this March.
Join the March Sustainability Challenge on Green Rewards and help achieve a saving of 120,000kg of CO2 through your sustainable actions. Get involved by reporting your actions and monitor the real-time progress.
Green Rewards is a free programme that rewards members with £20 vouchers for taking actions to help reduce carbon emissions. The actions include travelling sustainably, enjoying nature, reducing waste or energy use, and reducing meat consumption.
All staff and students at University of Nottingham are invited to join in helping to achieve this goal. You can sign up to Green Rewards, for free, at: uon.greenrewards.co.uk/.
There’s also a free app for iOS and Android which you can download by searching for ‘UoN; Green Rewards’ in your device’s app store.
If you’re already signed up, earn more points and reach the target by referring your colleagues and friends. Why not challenge yourself to go that extra step further – everything counts!
Reducing the amount of CO2 emissions is vital to mitigate the effects of climate change, prevent health issues caused by factors such as air pollution, and maintain a diverse natural environment. We can all make a difference, with small everyday changes, that add up to a big impact.
