The university is looking for members of staff from all job families who are interested in being trained to help support the roll out and delivery of our three-year reverse mentoring ‘Train the Trainer’ programme.
Typically, reverse mentoring is when a senior member of staff is mentored by a more junior member of staff. Reverse mentoring provides an opportunity, irrespective of seniority, for staff to learn from each other by sharing knowledge and experiences.
This helps to bridge generational and hierarchical gaps, improve communication and understanding. We believe our staff should have an opportunity to challenge our leaders on how they lead and share with them how their experience of university life may be different.
The ReMEDI approach, developed by Stacy Johnson MBE, Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences in 2017, adapts traditional intergenerational reverse mentoring to enhance cultural humility of leaders and organisational influencers, for the purpose of improving equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI).
Leaders are mentored by more junior staff who identify as belonging to groups underrepresented at universities and in university leadership.
This short animation provides an overview of the ReMEDI approach.
We are looking for members of staff across the university, from all job families, who are interested in being trained to help support the roll out and delivery of the university’s three-year reverse mentoring train the trainer programme.
We are looking for members of staff who are interested in:
We also welcome expressions of interest from staff who are members of our staff networks and those who have participated in reverse mentoring previously, as part of the EPSRC-funded STEMM-CHANGE project.
By the end of the three-day train the trainer course, our trained staff will have:
The first train the trainer course will take place on the following dates:
Please register your interest by submitting the expression of interest form, by Friday 17 May 2024.

At the University of Nottingham, we embrace diversity in culture, spirit and thinking. It’s why we were the first UK university to establish campuses overseas at the turn of the new Millennium: first in Malaysia and then in China.
While the last few decades have changed the world, the pursuit of knowledge, academic endeavour and human curiosity endures across our borderless university.
Our community of students and staff have come together to celebrate the value of a truly global community with their birthday wishes to our China campus, which turns 20 this year.
In 2004, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. 20 years later, we have more than 8,000 students and staff from 70 countries from across the world, and a reputation for delivering excellence in education and world-leading research, of benefit to Ningbo, to China, and beyond.
We are coming together as students, staff, alumni and partners to celebrate this important milestone in our history, whilst at the same time looking forward to the next phase of development with enthusiasm for the future.
A celebratory event was held on UNNC’s campus where people gathered to learn more about the history of the university as well as network with like-minded colleagues.

A number of diversion routes will be in place from Monday 22 – Friday 26 April as major roadworks will be undertaken to parts of Cut Through Lane and Jubilee Avenue on University Park campus.
Day works will start on Cut Through Lane from 7am on Thursday 25 April and will last until 7pm. During this time, traffic will be one-way only and we ask travellers to follow the directions for the bus diversion route.
Day roadworks will take place on Cut Through Lane from 7am until 7pm on Monday 22 April. During this time, vehicle movements including cycles will be one-way, westbound only. Eastbound traffic will need to follow the diversion routes which will be signed.
Access to Estates Road and the Visitor car park will remain in place, with some minor disruption expected as the works are being carried out. The diversion route for eastbound traffic will be signed from Keighton Hill – which will be via Cut Through Lane, Library Road, and Lenton Hall Lane to down Cripps Hill back to the other end of Cut Through Lane.
The stepped pedestrian route from the Visitor car park down to Cut Through Lane and George Green library will be closed during the works so pedestrians will need to use the footway which runs alongside the car park access road.
NCT and Hopper bus services will not be affected by the works on Cut Through Lane.
Evening roadworks will be taking place on Jubilee Avenue (near Florence Boot Hall) from 6pm to 6am on Tuesday 23 April and are expected to end on the evening of Thursday 25 April 2024.
Access from the West Entrance along Cut Through Lane towards the Trent building will be closed from 6pm between Tuesday 23 April to and including Thursday 25 April. The exit from Trent building, down Jubilee Avenue will also be closed from these periods. Normal routes will be open again at 6am each morning.
After 6pm, vehicles exiting from the parking around the Trent building and Jubilee Avenue, who would normally use Jubilee Avenue will be diverted against the normal flow of traffic and vehicles will have to exit via Cut Through Lane, towards Florence Boot Hall. This exit route will remain open until 8pm, after which the route will be closed. From 8pm, the lower section of Cut Through Lane and the bottom of Jubilee Avenue (to Florence Boot Hall) will also be closed to traffic. Normal routes will be open again at 6am each morning.
Any pedestrian diversion routes will signed and operatives will be able to assist.
Due to the resurfacing works, Hopper bus services and NCT34C services will have to operate on alternative routes after 6pm between Tuesday 23 – Thursday 25 April 2024. The following services will be impacted:

The funding has been awarded by the Research England Museums, Galleries and Collections Fund
The £1.1m funding will be received annually as £218,700 over the next 5 years. This is one of the largest grants received by an archive and museum service from Research England, and it’s the first time Manuscripts and Special Collections has applied for the fund, which aims to support institutions that serve a wider research community.
This grant recognises the importance of the collections held by Manuscripts and Special Collections, which includes the University of Nottingham Museums, and the significant contribution that the team and the collections make to research both nationally and internationally. It also acknowledges the positive impact Manuscripts and Special Collections has on undergraduate and postgraduate students at the university, supporting students through teaching, student placements and volunteer programmes.
Hayley Cotterill, Associate Director and Keeper of Manuscripts and Special Collections, said: “This funding is a fantastic acknowledgement of the work already being done by everyone in Manuscripts and Special Collections to support research and scholarship within the University of Nottingham and amongst the wider research community. I am excited for the opportunities this gives us, we hope to use the funding to increase access to the collections by improving the availability of collection information, collaborating on academic projects and reviewing our digital provision.”
Manuscripts and Special Collections, part of the University of Nottingham Libraries, holds over 3.5 million archives and 80,000 printed items in its archival and special collections, ranging in dates from the 12th – 21st centuries. The archives of the Dukes of Portland, the archives of the Dukes of Newcastle and the DH Lawrence collection have all been designated as being of outstanding national and international significance.
The University of Nottingham Museum holds the University’s collections of mainly regional archaeology covering a 250,000 year period. The University of Nottingham Museum received Museum Accreditation in 2010. Manuscripts and Special Collections received Archive Accreditation in 2016.

The Education Administration Continuous Improvement Team (EACIT) focus on reducing the complexity of university systems and processes where Campus Solutions is at the heart of the student journey, making them as simple and as streamlined as possible. If you haven’t used Campus Solutions for a long time, it now includes many new features – which we continue to build on. We encourage you to log in and take a look.
Campus Solutions is used by Professional Services, academics and students as the primary source of student information on all our campuses. Sometimes referred to as ‘NottinghamHub’, this resource is widely used for many tasks, such as:
Learn about some recent changes to Campus Solutions
The Academic WorkCentre (AWC) is the academic staff view of NottinghamHub. We have been speaking to academics across all UK faculties to better understand what they need from the AWC. We will be using these insights to develop future improvements.
Through these conversations, we learned that many academics are not aware of the wide range of information they can access, and tasks they can perform, through the AWC. We have made some tweaks to the layout and terminology of the Student Summary Screen to help academics find what they need. Frequent users may not notice a difference, but we often find that the smallest improvements can have a big impact.
Watch the videos below for a walk-through demonstration of the updated Student Summary Screen. We really do encourage you to watch these to see just how much you can get out of the AWC.
Academic WorkCentre – Introduction and navigation
Academic WorkCentre – Viewing student data
A wide range of training materials are available for Campus Solutions users.
Please note that these resources will be moving from Workspace to SharePoint in the coming months. We will be back in touch with more information.
Any colleague in the university can suggest an improvement to student administration systems and processes. If you have a suggestion for an improvement, please fill in our form and we will get back to you.

As part of the university’s journey of continuous improvement, a new Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system called Planon is being launched across Estates this year.
This means for staff across our campus’s is that there will be a new and improved Estates Helpdesk web portal. The information gathered at the request stage will be more standardised, which will enable the Estates teams to triage the issues faster and allocate the work to the right person, first time, every time. It is anticipated that the new Estates Helpdesk will be available on the University of Nottingham website from July.
This system represents a big investment by the university and is a key strategic enabling project for the Estates team. It replaces a number of outdated systems that are currently used and enables the function to make a number of improvements in how our 500 buildings and 100,000+ assets are maintained and serviced.
Some of the key improvements this system will enable are:
Updates on this project will be provided on the lead up to the ‘go live’ date. The vision is to provide a safe and compliant environment for university staff, students, contractors and visitors across all our buildings and spaces. This new system will help us make the key improvements we need, in order to continue this important work.
