University of Nottingham China celebrates 20 years

April 19th, 2024

At the University of Nottingham, we embrace diversity in culture, spirit and thinking. It’s why we were the first UK university to establish campuses overseas at the turn of the new Millennium: first in Malaysia and then in China.

While the last few decades have changed the world, the pursuit of knowledge, academic endeavour and human curiosity endures across our borderless university.

Our community of students and staff have come together to celebrate the value of a truly global community with their birthday wishes to our China campus, which turns 20 this year.

In 2004, the University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) was the first Sino-foreign university to open its doors in China. 20 years later, we have more than 8,000 students and staff from 70 countries from across the world, and a reputation for delivering excellence in education and world-leading research, of benefit to Ningbo, to China, and beyond.

We are coming together as students, staff, alumni and partners to celebrate this important milestone in our history, whilst at the same time looking forward to the next phase of development with enthusiasm for the future.

A celebratory event was held on UNNC’s campus where people gathered to learn more about the history of the university as well as network with like-minded colleagues.
