School attracts business leaders

Mark Ovenden, Nottingham alumnus and Chairman of Ford of Great Britain, and global fashion icon Sir Paul Smith are the latest high-profile speakers to feature in Nottingham University Business School’s (NUBS) Business Leader Series.

In addition to providing valuable networking opportunities for people from the University and local business communities, the series aims to bring high-profile speakers to NUBS to offer unique and inspiring insights into the careers and experiences of leaders in their fields.

Mark Ovenden (Geography 1985), Chairman and Managing Director of Ford of Great Britain, described how – through a combination of visionary leadership and the introduction of a clear and simple plan – Ford pulled itself back from virtual bankruptcy in 2008 to sustainable profitability today, reasserting its position as a great global brand.

Sir Paul’s talk – Things to Think About –  chartered his career from leaving school at 16 with no qualifications or real career plans to running a global fashion empire worth over £350m with more than 200 stores in 35 countries. Read more:
