Class of ’93 reunion

May Fest 2013 was the perfect setting for an alumni reunion for the Class of ’93 (pictured above). Mostly Production Engineers, they came from all over the world to meet up again for the weekend.

The free, exclusive use of the Hemsley (former Staff Club), a free buffet lunch and a chill-out space for alumni, provided the ideal venue. And with the Orchard Hotel just minutes away, many chose to make a weekend of it.

Nigel Bowthorpe (Industrial Economics 1993) said: “I hope we all manage to catch up next year. I’d certainly be keen for the annual pilgrimage to ‘God’s own’ campus. What a fantastic place it is, and what great memories of such carefree, fun-filled times with you all.  How lucky were we?”

Anna’s GB experience

Alumna and University employee Dr Anna Bertram (Chemistry 1997) from the School of Chemistry, has competed in both the Triathlon World and European Championships, just four years after taking up the sport.

She qualified for both age group events with performances at British Championships 2012. Despite a foot injury which stopped her running or cycling in the three months up to the event Dr Bertram still managed to compete at the European event in June and post a respectable time, completing the race in 1hr 12. She said: “It was an absolutely amazing experience to represent Great Britain in these international events and one which I think will always be in my top five lifetime achievements.”

Alumna joins the team

Nottingham alumna Emma Sims (History 1998) has joined the University as its new Head of Access and Communities.

Emma will lead a newly established section within Student Operations and Support, bringing together a range of existing service areas including Widening Participation, Community Partnerships and the Academies unit.

Emma will play a major part in the evolution of the University’s community engagement and widening participation strategies and a central role in delivery, particularly in relation to the University’s sponsorship of local academies.
