Cash boost for superbugs fight

Ambitious plans by researchers to use the latest sophisticated scientific techniques in the fight against so-called hospital superbugs have secured a £27,082 funding boost from a high-profile charity event.

Researchers at the University’s UK-leading Centre for Healthcare Associated Infections (CHAI), will put the cash towards their programme of next generation genome sequencing – their ultimate fundraising goal is £1.4m. The gala dinner and charity auction held in London’s Pall Mall saw exclusive lots going under the hammer in support of CHAI, including tickets for the opening day of Wimbledon 2011. For information about CHAI visit: www.hcai.nottingham.ac.uk or contact Steve Vesse, senior development manager, on +44 (0)115 951 3274 or by e-mail at: steve.vesse@nottingham.ac.uk.
