A capital idea!

After two successful Life Cycles the Vice-Chancellor and his team will be back in the saddle in August for Nottingham Life Cycle 3.

This year’s 1,100-mile challenge will take in the major cities and capitals of the UK and Republic of Ireland in aid of Stroke Rehabilitation Research. Funds raised will address the often-neglected needs of stroke survivors following hospital care, and the need for stroke specialist provision of rehabilitation at home.

Alumni will be able to meet up with the riders and have a drink and a chat at the stops in Belfast and Cardiff. Our alumni in those cities will be receiving an invitation to those events.

The 2013 ride will visit London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast and Dublin. Alumni and friends will have a chance to get involved with three free community events taking place on Sunday 1 September. A 55-mile Nottingham-leg ride from Leicestershire is open to cycling enthusiasts aged 18 and over (sets off 9.30am) while a community ride along Nottingham’s Big Track will start and end at the Lakeside Arts Centre at University Park (sets off at noon).

If cycling is not your thing then why not come along and cheer the riders and join the family-friendly fun and celebrations at the barbecue and community day, which begins at 1pm.

Have you had a stroke or do you know someone who has?

The University is holding a lay conference at the East Midlands Conference Centre on 29 July which will be of specific interest to stroke survivors, their carers, families and anyone interested in stroke. The free conference has been organised by representatives of the Nottingham Stroke Consumer Group in collaboration with the Stroke Rehabilitation colleagues at the University. The informal event will showcase the University’s work on stroke rehabilitation and explore patients’ attitudes towards the research and how they can shape it and get involved. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. To register or for further details, contact Hazel Sayerson on +44 (0)115 823 1430 or email: hazel.sayers@nottingham.ac.uk
