Attitudes Towards Faecal Transplant — add your thoughts to a research survey

July 25th, 2017

The University of Nottingham has been asked to participate in an international survey assessing attitudes towards faecal transplants. Can you provide your thoughts on the subject?

The survey is intended to help researchers understand the public’s view in the UK, USA and Canada on stool donation and faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT).

Survey participants will be asked to complete a short, anonymous questionnaire with their thoughts on the subject of FMT.

Please note: there are no risks associated with this survey and participation is completely voluntary. All questionnaire submissions are anonymous and cannot be traced back to the participant.

By participating in the survey, you will be helping to discover the attitudes of potential donors towards faecal donation. This may help with future donor recruitment and will directly benefit future FMT patients. The study will also help raise awareness about stool donation and FMT.

The survey closes on Thursday 31 August.

You can find the questionnaire, containing more information about the survey, here.

Green Flag success for Nottingham campuses

July 25th, 2017

The University of Nottingham has once again secured prestigious Green Flag awards — the mark of a quality park or green space — for both its Jubilee and University Park campuses.

Nottingham was the first university to be awarded a Green Flag in 2003 for University Park and this campus has now received the award for 15 years in a row.

It is the fifth year that the Jubilee campus has also received the accolade.

Our University campuses are among a record-breaking 1,797 UK parks and green spaces that have received a prestigious Green Flag award this year.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Andy Sweeney, Director of Estates (Operations) at the University of Nottingham, said: “We are delighted that our University Park and Jubilee campuses continue to be recognised as worthy of a Green Flag award. It’s a testimony to the hard work and dedication of our Grounds team who create and maintain such wonderful spaces that enhance biodiversity and the University’s commitment to a sustainable place to work and study.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “Each flag is a celebration of the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award.”

Do you travel between campuses? — Help with a study!

July 25th, 2017

The University of Nottingham’s N-SERP programme (Nottingham Summer Engineering Research Programme) is on the lookout for staff and students to complete a study about distance and travelling between UK campuses.

The ‘Smart Campus’ study is being carried out to gain improved understanding of how accurately members of the University perceive distance and travel time between key points on the campuses — as well as their likely choices of travel mode.

The data collected through the study will be used to help the University improve commuting and movement between and around campuses.

If you’re a current member of the University of Nottingham and you’d like to help out by taking part in this survey, please follow this link to complete the questionnaire.

In addition, participants are needed for a separate interview or “talk aloud” study. This study will be carried out in person and its volunteers will receive a £5 and £10 Amazon voucher, respectively, for their time. To find out more, please email eayjcla@nottingham.ac.uk.

Maternity/adoption/shared parental leave: focus groups announced

July 21st, 2017

Focus groups are being held to explore experiences of maternity, adoption, and shared parental leave at the University of Nottingham.

The focus groups follow on from the Athena SWAN survey conducted earlier this year, which aimed to understand some of the equality and diversity issues across the University. Picking up on a key area in that survey, we’d like to explore your experience of taking maternity/adoption/shared parental leave, and returning to work following that leave, in more detail.

Focus groups are being held for staff who have experiences we can draw on, both positive and negative. Separate focus groups will also take place for line managers who have supported, or are supporting, people going on leave or returning from leave.

We’d like to gain perspectives in the round to understand the issues for staff and line managers, and the barriers and opportunities for the institution to make improvements. The information gained will be held confidentially and used to help us develop action plans for future equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) initiatives.

Focus Groups will be run between August and November. If you would like to take part, please click on the appropriate link below:
