Jean Xavier’s presentation will show the importance of travel narratives in the evolution of contemporary thinking about the Other.

He will offer a reading of the diversity of this genre throughout the 20th century to the present day.

Using Victor Segalen’s work as a starting point, he will show how the convergence of ethnographic, philosophical and poetic discourses has forced us to rethink our relationship to the Other and to the world.
