On Thursday 24 November, as part of a new seminar series organised in conjunction with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the China Policy Institute will host a round table event on the future direction of UK-China relations following the Brexit decision.

Our panellists, who will be discussing the potential challenges and opportunities here, are:

  • Mr John Pearson, Deputy Head of the China desk at the FCO. A former Nottingham graduate (BSc Geography) and specialist in environmental policy, Mr Pearson joined the FCO in 1990 where he has had extensive experience working both in London as well as abroad (including Spain, Mexico and Brazil).
  • Professor Andreas Bieler, Professor of Political Economy and Fellow of the Centre for the Study of Social and Global Justice in the School of Politics and International Relations. Professor Bieler has a particular interest in European integration and the EU model of capitalism, as well as the global dynamics of capitalism more broadly.
  • Dr Chun-yi Lee, Assistant Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations. Dr Lee’s research examines Chinese and broader East Asian economic activity and industrial development, with a particular focus on investment opportunities and labour relations.

The discussion will be chaired by Dr Jonathan Sullivan, Director of the China Policy Institute and Associate Professor in the School of Politics and International Relations. He has a particular interest in China’s relationships with its immediate neighbours as well as China’s expanding global role.
