The university is in the process of installing new electric vehicle charge points across our campuses – this includes replacing the existing points at Jubilee campus (opposite Business School South and in the UNIP car park), King’s Meadow campus (short stay staff parking area), University Park (outside the Estate Office) and at Sutton Bonington (in front of Main Building).
During the removal of the existing points and installation of the new points there will be a couple of days when each location will not be available for vehicle charging – we are trying to keep down time to a minimum.
We will also be installing new charge points in the following locations:
To use the new charge points users will need to download the Mer Connect App and register as a user.
Read more about how to set up your Mer account
We will be introducing charges to use the EV charge points on campus, but initially you will be able to use them for free providing you have the Mer app.
As with the existing charge points, users will need a valid university parking permit or a Pay and Display ticket, and can charge their vehicle for up to 3 hours between 8am and 4pm.

Sections of University Park campus will be affected by resurfacing work taking place between Monday 4 September and Friday 15 September 2023.
Some roads are in need of repair, and resurfacing is the best option to enable this.
While this work is underway, all traffic along the roads will be subject to traffic management by the contractor.
This will cause disruption at busy times, and users may want to consider alternative options to access campus.
Resurfacing work will be taking place on the following dates and locations:
Day works will begin to resurface the road between the roundabout with Cut Through Lane and up to near Lenton Hall Drive between 8am – 6pm.
One lane at a time will be closed so that two-way travel will be possible via the use of traffic management and stop/go boards.
This is likely to cause minor delays to travel times including all Hopper buses and Nottingham City Transport (NCT) 34 Bus service. Please see images below for more.
Day works will take place between 8am – 6pm. This only affects the North exit, the North entrance will remain open all day as normal.
Please use alternative West or South exits from the university.
The Jubilee Hopper bus service 903 that connects Jubilee Campus to University Park will be affected by this closure and will operate via a diverted route, with slight delays.
Both lanes between the access road to Willoughby Close and the main public roundabout (at junction with Woodside Road, University Boulevard and Broadgate) will be closed over night between 8pm – 6am on Monday 11 to Wednesday 13 September.
The road will reopen each day between 6am and 8pm for normal use.
Any evening or night-time users of David Ross Sports Village or people wishing to access the East Midlands Conference Centre and Orchard Hotel are being asked to find alternative routes into campus.
The NCT Bus service 34 will also have its evening services affected by the closure – please contact the bus operator for more information.
If you have any questions about the upcoming works, please contact EstatesHelpdesk@nottingham.ac.uk.

If you witness or are part of a medical emergency on campus, there are clear steps you should follow to make sure it is dealt with as quickly, efficiently and safely as possible.
A medical emergency is where you think the casualty may need expert emergency medical support, for example, a suspected cardiac arrest, an unconscious person who can’t be roused, a life-threatening injury, a major fracture or other very serious injury/illness.
If you are at the scene, either as a first aider or passer-by, please contact University Security in the first instance – ext 8888 from internal phones, 0115 9518888 from a mobile.
Security will make the call to the Emergency Services without delay and will then connect you with the 999 operator. Calling via Security means they can support you with their first aid skills or additional equipment if needed.
They can assist with accessing restricted areas and escalation to other services as appropriate and they can also transport casualties to hospital where safe to do so.
Please visit our webpage for additional details, including non-university buildings and facilities.
Incidents are recorded on our incident reporting system so we can reflect on how they are managed and make continuous improvements to the way we respond.
Wellbeing support options are made available to anyone involved as medical emergencies can be very stressful and upsetting to deal with. Often it is a colleague or student who is well known to those helping out.
Thankfully, medical emergencies on campus are rare. But you can make sure you’re prepared to support as quickly as possible if you do encounter one.
Add the Security number (Emergency Telephone Number) to your phone – 0115 951 8888 – and familiarise yourself with where to locate local first aider information.
The My Nottingham App (available to staff as well as students) now has an Emergency tile for easy access to the university emergency telephone number.
Most of the time when one of our community has an accident or falls ill, a university first aider can help the person using their standard training and first aid equipment.
Please familiarise yourself with how to summon a local first aider (e.g. first aid notices).
Thank you for your support.
For any questions, please email the Health and Safety Team.

The university’s Biodiscovery Institute (BDI) has published a brochure highlighting advances in shaping the future of health and biotechnology.
The BDI is a £100 million world-leading hub of interdisciplinary research, accommodating 85 research groups and bringing together 850 researchers from the schools of Chemistry, Life Sciences, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Science and the Faculty of Engineering.
The institute (formerly the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences) has leveraged £300 million in funding since 2014 and later this year will be celebrating its 20th anniversary, with an international showcase in 2024 to mark this milestone.
Its new brochure highlights how research in biotechnology is improving human health through new drug discovery, advanced materials for healthcare and better understanding of disease.
Recent successes include establishing a £4m Nottingham Ovarian Cancer Research Centre and the £23.4 million renewal of the National Biofilms Innovation Centre, which combines expertise from academia (Nottingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Southampton) with 200 industrial partners.
The brochure also provides a directory of the BDI’s advanced facilities as well as the specialised research areas and techniques available from principal investigators across six multidisciplinary research themes.
Bringing together researchers from a diverse range of disciplines has made developing a supportive environment and positive research culture a key aim of the BDI.
Developments in this area have included Project Period, the provision of free sanitary products throughout the BDI which has now been taken up university-wide, and the empowerment of the early career researchers, which has been recognised by the University of Nottingham Tri Campus Awards 2023’s Team Award for Commitment to Enhancing the Research Culture and Environment.

The Office for Students (OfS) is advising providers not to use their Teaching Excellent Framework (TEF) awards in marketing or promotional materials aimed at students.
For the university, this will mean not featuring our TEF Gold Award in any marketing material that is directed at students, including any text references, or the use of following logos:

Any existing printed materials do not need to be updated. Information about educational strategy or internal management that is not aimed directly at prospective students can continue to use the TEF logo – provided it states, ‘Awarded in June 2017’.
If you are still using the email signature banner below, it must be updated with the new version, without the TEF gold logo – which is available on Brand Resources. Download it here.

If you have any questions regarding the removal of this information, please contact Corporate Marketing at brand@nottingham.ac.uk.
You can read the full TEF update here.

The university’s School of Life Sciences has been awarded a prestigious Gold award in the latest round of Athena SWAN submissions.
A Gold award recognises a significant and sustained record of activity and achievement by the School in addressing challenges across the full range of its activities and promoting gender equality within and beyond.
The 5 year Gold award to Life Sciences is in addition to our Schools of Health Sciences, Veterinary Medicine and Science, Computer Science and Economics and Education receiving either Silver renewal, new Bronze accreditation or Bronze renewal awards as part of 2022’s and 2023’s submissions.
The Equality Challenge Unit’s Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) in higher education and research.
In May 2015, the charter was expanded to recognise work undertaken in arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL), and in professional and support roles, and for trans staff and students.
The charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
Professor Katherine Linehan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for EDI and People said: “It’s a fantastic achievement and I’m proud of all our Schools that have been awarded in this submission window.
“Life Sciences achieving the Gold award and so many of our Schools also retaining their Sliver or Bronze awards serves to cement the university’s unending commitment to tackling inequality.
“These awards are testament to the hard work and focus of the Schools and they will go a long way to championing and promoting good practice within the wider community.”
Find more information about the Athena Swan Charter here.
