Enhancements to the hopper bus services

September 17th, 2019

The following changes will be implemented to the hopper bus services from Monday 23 September.

  • 901 Sutton Bonington — additional connectivity will be added to Kegworth in the morning and evening peaks
  • 902 King’s Meadow Campus — an on-request ‘set down’ stop will be added on Lenton Lane to facilitate connectivity to the Tram Network (note this is only on the KMC to UP section of the route)
  • 903 Jubilee Campus — this route will no longer serve East Drive or the Arts Centre and will loop around campus before exiting the North Entrance. This change will remove significant congestion to East Drive and also improve the reliability of the service by avoiding significant congestion in the Dunkirk area.

These changes are being implemented to help improve the overall reliability of service, improve connectivity and further enhance the campus environment.

New timetables will be uploaded to the website shortly.

Staff Room — your homepage for news and information

September 16th, 2019

The Staff Room channel highlighting news, information and key links and services for staff has been set as the default homepage for staff using Internet Explorer as a browser.

Staff Room was launched in May this year as the landing page for staff, highlighting key news and events, colleague and student successes, and updates to systems and services affecting our UK campuses.

It was launched following staff feedback – including the Staff Engagement Survey and the University Strategy consultation process. Colleagues told us they wanted access to information and key services quickly and easily, without having to trawl the University website, Workspace and other channels.

The page, which was developed following staff consultation, also brings together links to commonly used systems and services – including HR services, IS systems, Campus Solutions, the Research Information System, policy documents and email. Colleagues across the institution took part in surveys, focus groups and testing to help develop the site.

To share your news and events on Staff Room, or our other internal communications channels for staff and students, contact the Internal Communications Team. Please also share your thoughts and suggestions on Staff Room news content and useful links, so we can make ongoing improvements to the channel.

Gender Identity option in MyView

September 12th, 2019

The option to self-declare gender identity is now available in MyView.

Gender identity refers to the way you describe your identity, as opposed to your ‘sex’ which is related to your physical body and biology.

The University is committed through its Institutional Athena Swan action plan to the principle that individuals have unique identities, and to providing the option for staff to declare their gender identity, which may or may not be the same as the gender originally assigned to them at birth.

As a result of this work, an option has been created to enable staff to update their gender identity in MyView. New applicants will also be asked to provide their gender identity information when completing their equality information as part of the recruitment process.

Collecting personal details such as gender identity and disability helps the University better understand the profile of its workforce, provides a basis for equality monitoring, and supports wider work to promote equality such as equality impact assessments.

Data will only be used on an anonymised basis for monitoring equality, diversity and inclusion and will not be shared in any way in which you are personally identifiable without explicit permission.

To update your equality information, visit MyView, select ‘my details’ and ‘equality monitoring’. For more details see this guide.

Disruption to University print service

September 11th, 2019

As part of the University print service refresh project, there will be some upcoming disruption as Information Services (IS) upgrade the infrastructure to support the refreshed service.

Disruption is expected to take up to ten days between Thursday 12 and Wednesday 25 September.

From Monday 9 September, IS will be changing the print queues, simplifying names and upgrading the print service websites.

What is changing?

  • Upgrading the Print Credits and Print Pin websites to a new service – there will be some downtime while this takes place
  • Installing new print queues to all University Windows desktops and laptops.
Four print queues will remain – ‘Mono’, ‘Colour’, ‘Booklet’ and ‘Draft’. The name of the queues will change, for example ‘mono on uiwapeps05’ will become ‘Mono on UoNPrint’
  • Non-Windows and users of desktop phasers will need to update their print settings
  • Some printers will have an updated ‘Scan to Email’ option and ‘Workflow scanning’, this will match the experience found on printers in student areas
  • Fax option is being removed from service

How does this affect users?

For the changes to take place, printers need to be transferred from the old print queues to the new print queues. Disruption is expected to take up to ten days between Thursday 12 and Wednesday 23 September, however work may be completed sooner. A full schedule can be viewed on the Digital Network blog.

During the period of disruption it is advised that all users send documents to both the old and new queues to ensure documents are printed. There will also be limited availability of the mobile print service while printers are transferred.

Taught students and users of mobile print

Printers in student areas will be transferred during the first few days of transition. Mobile print will have limited availability until all printers are transferred to the new service.

Staff, Postgraduate Researcher and Associates

From Thursday 12 September, users with a University Windows desktop, laptop or surface, should restart the device or log out and back in for the new print queues to load. All old queues will remain until all printers have been transferred.

More information

For further information and guides on updating printer settings on staff non-Windows devices or for instructions on printing to a direct printer queue (i.e. desktop phaser), please see this Workspace page.

Echo 360 improvements: Training events

September 6th, 2019

Echo 360 have made further improvements to the Engage lecture recording service with the introduction of a new user interface called Universal Capture.

These improvements will affect all teaching rooms with the exception of large lecture theatres, which will retain the 2018-19 interface for the immediate future. Staff unsure of which system is in use in the room in which they are timetabled to teach can refer to the list of locations of each type of system.

The new interface will make it quicker and easier for all staff to use the full functionality of the system.

Information Services are offering training sessions to give staff the opportunity to learn more and try out the new interface. These will take place as follows:

  • Wednesday 11 September 2019, 2-4 pm, A01 Highfield House, University Park Campus
  • Wednesday 18 September 2019, 2-4 pm, C15 Chemistry, University Park Campus
  • Wednesday 25 September 2019, 2-4 pm, B14 ESLC, University Park Campus

Please go to the Central Short Courses Engage booking page to book your place on one of the sessions above. You only need to attend one session as the content will be repeated.

Further training sessions will follow in due course, including on the other Nottingham campuses.

Instructions on how to use the new interface can also be downloaded in pdf format.
