Oedipus

Oedipus Rex is the powerful and self-assured King of Thebes who unwittingly fulfils a brutal and murderous prophecy. As the truth is slowly and painfully revealed, King Oedipus, his mother and his people come to realise the true horror of what he has done, leading to inevitably bloody consequences.

First performed around 429 BC, and regarded as the star turn in the Greek dramatic canon, this remarkable play is thought by many to be an exemplar of the tragic form.

Following Lakeside productions of Lysistrata, Doctor Faustus and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, director Martin Berry introduces the Greek Muses as storytellers who combine music, drama and theatrical flair in a performance that promises to surprise and entertain.
