Let’s talk…paralympic sport: open discussion with Nottingham’s Paralympic athletes

As part of the university’s celebration of Disability Recognition Month 2022, we are highlighting para-sport and demonstrating the personal and academic benefits participation in sport can have for disabled students and students with long term medical conditions.

We will have a panel of speakers who have achieved at the highest level and will be talking about their own lived experiences and how it has helped them through all facets of life. We will hear from three speakers:

  • Sophie Unwin, GB Paralympic Cycling silver medallist and World Championship gold medallist,;
  • Joe Bestwick, GB Paralympic Wheelchair Basketball Bronze medallist, European Championship gold medallist and current Wheelchair Basketball Development Officer at the University:
  • Tim Jeffery, GB Paralympic shooting finalist, World Championship gold medallist and former University of Nottingham student.

We will also have presentations from:

  • One of our Para-Scholars;
  • A student who has engaged and benefited from our supported fitness program;
  • Wheelchair Basketball Club to give an overview of the opportunities and support that the University is able to provide disabled students and students with long term medical conditions.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions and chat to the speakers and facilitators during and after the event.
