Information session on Royal Society career development fellowship for researchers from Black heritage

The Royal Society Career Development Fellowship (CDF), is a four-year, postdoctoral research fellowship that aims to support the retention in STEM of researchers from underrepresented backgrounds.

The scheme will initially run as a pilot with researchers from Black heritage.

If successful, the pilot may be broadened to researchers from other underrepresented groups. Fellowships will provide funding to conduct high-quality research and a comprehensive programme of mentoring, training and networking opportunities to support award holders in establishing a successful research career in the UK.

This internal information session is aimed at potential internal applicants and at staff who will support applications to this scheme.

The session will provide a brief description of the Royal Society, will explain the EDI element of this pilot scheme, and include details on the benefits of this scheme, the factors to consider when applying and the support offered by the University of Nottingham.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

Speakers include: Professor Robert Mokaya OBE FRS (Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Professor of Materials Chemistry), Professor Liz Sockett CBE FRS (Professor of Bacterial Genetics, and member of the Royal Society Diversity and Inclusion Committee), Dr Connie Wan (Head of Researcher Leadership) and Cheryl Brand (Research Development Manager, Charities).

Registration is available via the event link above until Wednesday 15 November 2023.

A follow up optional online Q&A surgery session for prospective applicants will be held on Friday 15 December, from 11am-12noon.
