The University will host two ‘Noise and Silence‘ public events reflecting on science, technology and music to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Science Museum’s landmark 1935 Noise Abatement exhibition.
At 6pm on Thursday 26 March, join sound art collective Audialsense for a talk and tour of a specially created installation. Located in the Portland Building covered tunnel, the installation reveals and enhances acoustic phenomena dependent on architectural properties. LG11, Trent Building, University Park.
At 2.30pm on Friday 27 March, leading scholars of sound share their ideas about the meaning and history of noise and silence in a workshop. Speakers will include David Hendy (author of ‘Noise: A Human History of Sound and Listening’), Shelley Trower (author of ‘Senses of Vibration: A History of the Pleasure and Pain of Sound’) and Tom Rice (author of ‘Hearing and the Hospital: Sound, Listening, Knowledge and Experience’).
