The right to health includes a right of access to good quality palliative care, but inequalities persist.

Raising awareness is a key plank of the public health approach to palliative care but involves consideration of subjects most of us prefer not to address. This talk examines the complexities of raising awareness and distills key messages from international research.

Speaker: Professor Jane Seymour, Professor of Palliative and End of Life Care, School of Nursing and Midwifery, the University of Sheffield

Jane Seymour is a nurse and a social scientist who has been involved in palliative care research and education since the early 1990s. Her PhD was a study of end of life decision-making in critical care. She joined the University of Sheffield in 2016, after a decade leading a palliative care research centre at the University of Nottingham.

Her current research interests include advance care planning and end-of-life decision-making, palliative care in resource poor contexts and public education in palliative care. Jane has published widely across the nursing, health care and specialist palliative care journals.

The event will start with light refreshments and the viewing of posters at 5.30pm. The lecture will begin at 6pm and will last approximately one hour.
