Do you know a University Staff member who has gone above and beyond to enhance the student experience? Do you study in the best School or Department?
The University Staff Oscars are running for the fourth time this academic year following three very successful previous events. With a staggering 500 nominations made last year, University of Nottingham students showcased the amazing work over 14 nominations categories from best personal tutor through to best support staff member and best use of technology to enhance learning.
Organised by the Education Network of the Students’ Union, the Staff Oscars is a student-led event. The nominations judging panel is comprised of School Education Reps and Postgraduate Education Reps, elected students who act as ‘head course reps’ for their School/Department. The process is then overseen by both the Education Officer and Postgraduate Officer, the joint figureheads of the Network.
We anticipate that this year will be bigger and better with even more nominations coming from all corners of the University and sincerely look forward to sharing the excitement of the awards ceremony with all those who are successful.
If you know someone who you would like to nominate then please go to our website:

Following the fire at the GlaxoSmithKline Carbon Neutral Laboratory for Sustainable Chemistry in September, we are pleased to say that our contractors have now restarted work on the site.
The rebuilding work is based on the same design principles as before and aesthetically, the laboratory will be no different from the original design.
It is our continuing commitment to deliver a carbon neutral laboratory that defines building methods and operating protocols for a more sustainable future. By using the same team to do this, we will be able to deliver the project in the shortest time and to the highest specification.
Following the publication of the report by Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service last month, we were extremely satisfied with the findings and observations surrounding the cause of the fire. The report went into detail as to how our contractor, Morgan Sindall, followed all the guidelines and health and safety requirements during the build and we are confident this will continue as we progress with the rebuild.
We are now looking to the future and are committed to proceeding with our vision of building the world’s first truly green lab.
The anticipated completion date for the building will be summer 2016.

The University is recruiting five Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors.
These new roles arise from the University’s Global Strategy 2020, which sets a bold and challenging agenda for the next five years and beyond. Central to the delivery of this strategy is a new leadership structure for the University’s academic activity in the UK, with the creation of five Faculty Pro-Vice-Chancellors (for Arts, Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences, Science and Social Sciences).
As members of the University Executive Board, the PVCs will provide executive leadership to each Faculty and will be integral to the strategic management and success of the University. Accountable for overall performance of their faculty, they will align the ambitions and aspirations of their colleagues with those of the other faculties and in support of the University’s vision, goals and strategy.
The PVCs will have an outstanding record of academic achievement with international standing. As leaders, they will already have experience in academic units of significant size and scope, and in working as an effective member of a high performing team. They will be expected to represent the University nationally and internationally.
Internal applications are welcome. For further information or to discuss the role, please contact Perrett Laver through their website quoting the appropriate reference number:

Please note that Perrett Laver will not proactively approach colleagues within The University of Nottingham, but would be delighted to discuss the appointment with those who are interested in submitting an application.
The deadline for applications is midday (GMT) on Thursday 5 March. Formal interviews will take place at the University during the weeks commencing Monday 20 April and Monday 27 April.
