Starting in April, Information Services will be making some important and exciting changes to the way that University email and calendaring services are delivered.
The University has already been using the Microsoft Office 365 email service for students in the UK, UNNC and UNMC campuses for a number of years and the service will now be extended to University staff. The switch to Microsoft Office 365 will entail moving our current localised email service to a hosted, cloud-based solution, providing greater resilience at a reduced cost to the University.
What are the benefits of moving email to Office 365?
Moving staff email and calendaring to Office 365 is the first major step in the redesign of Workplace Computing across our global University, which will ultimately include access to a full suite of Office 365 services. Following the move to Office 365 for staff email, for the first time, we will possess a single email service across our global campuses with web access from any device.
How we’ll keep you informed
For now, no immediate action is required, but Information Services will provide regular communications about the changes via University news channels (including Campus News) and will also publish a series of Frequently Asked Questions, as well as making direct contact with schools and departments.
In the meantime, if you have any queries about the upcoming move to Office 365, please contact Information Services.

The University of Nottingham has appointed a new Strategic Change Director to support delivery of Global Strategy 2020.
Hâf Merrifield has been appointed to the newly-created post, and will report directly to Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Karen Cox, who holds overall strategic responsibility for driving delivery of Strategy 2020. Hâf will leave her current role as Head of Undergraduate Admissions which she has held at the University since 2014.
As Strategic Change Director, Hâf will work closely with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and University Executive Board to lead, co-ordinate and manage the support work required to ensure successful delivery of Global Strategy 2020. Working with the Executive Project Management Office, she will take responsibility for ensuring that the portfolio of projects which are supporting strategy delivery are well-planned, governed and delivered. Beyond this, Hâf will provide advice and support to the Provosts at University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus and University of Nottingham Ningbo China where necessary as they implement Strategy 2020 in their local contexts.
Hâf has a background not only in higher education, but also in national and regional government, and significant experience in developing and implementing strategy and managing a portfolio of change programmes and activities. She graduated with a BA in Philosophy and French from the University of Oxford in 1985 before taking roles in central government including the Departments for Education and Business, Innovation and Skills.
In 2007, Hâf became Deputy Regional Director and later Acting Regional Director for the Government Office for the East Midlands before moving into higher education. From 2010 to 2014, Hâf held the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Bishop Grosseteste University, during which she was instrumental in securing University title for BGU in 2012, implemented a governance and culture change programme across the organisation and led development of the new university strategy for 2014-2019.
Professor Cox said: “We are delighted that Hâf is joining the senior team to lead such an important area of work for the University. Her knowledge, skills and experience of strategic change and programme management will be invaluable as we implement Global Strategy 2020 over the next few years.”

The University’s External Relations department has launched a new campaign for 2017 undergraduate recruitment.
The ‘Imagine…it’s #MeantToBe’ campaign builds on the success of the #MeantToBe confirmation, clearing and adjustment campaign last year.
The new ‘Imagine’ element works as a device for the University to portray key recruitment messages while presenting an aspirational tone to prospective students.
Examples of the campaign can be seen in the new hard copy undergraduate prospectus and online prospectus.

The campaign also features a series of new videos providing an insight in to academic life at the University, including a university overview video (below) and a series of five faculty specific videos.

The University is offering staff with a declared disability* the opportunity to book on to a three-day personal development and leadership programme tailored to address the challenges and experiences of disabled staff from any grade/job family.
The programme will be delivered by an expert disabled researcher and trainer across three sessions in late April/early May, and is led by the Professional Development Unit supported by the University’s Disabled Staff Network. Workshops are designed to support participants to develop strategies to develop themselves and their careers, including managing key relationships at work, image and positive communications.
Feedback from previous years has been very positive. A past participant commented: “The programme was really excellent in every respect. It was highly empowering for disabled staff to fulfil their roles effectively within the University.”
