External Relations has organised another series of brand clinics to give colleagues a thorough understanding of the new brand, how to apply it, and how to ensure that any external agencies commissioned to produce materials for the University of Nottingham are adhering to it.
These interactive, two-hour sessions are a great way to become more familiar with the University’s brand.
If there are any members of staff in your team who have recently joined the University, it would be particularly useful for them to attend.
Further details are available on Workspace, along with details of how to book and future dates.

As a result of the temporary road closure, the Sutton Bonington hopper bus and NCT’s 34 service will be diverted.
The closure of the North Entrance, which links Derby Road (from the QMC roundabout) to University Park, will take place to allow for remedial repairs to the access road leading up to the gate house. The closure will be in place for the majority of the day.
The repair work is subject to weather conditions.
During the day, bus services that would normally use the North entrance to gain access to the campus will be re-routed as follows:
- The Sutton Bonington hopper bus will not stop at the East entrance stop (on journeys from Sutton Bonington) and George Green Library stop (on journeys from Sutton Bonington and from Nottingham city centre). Passengers are advised to instead use East Drive and the Arts Centre. Normal service will resume with the 17.20 journey from Sutton Bonington.
- NCT’s 34 service will not stop at George Green Library stop. Passengers are advised to instead use the East Drive or Arts Centre bus stops.
For the latest and live Hopper Bus information, visit the Hopper Bus Facebook page.

Blackwell’s Bookshop on Jubilee Campus has permanently closed. Students on courses based at Jubilee will now be able to purchase their books from the University Park bookshop.
Over the past two years Blackwell’s have investigated alternative ways of providing a bookshop service on Jubilee Campus, including a temporary bookshop during peak times. Unfortunately, this has not been a sustainable solution and the decision has been taken to close the Jubilee Campus Bookshop.
Blackwell’s recently opened a new bookshop on University Park in the Portland Building, which will hold stock of books used on courses based at Jubilee. Students based on these courses will be able to purchase their course material here. In addition, Blackwell’s will be looking at the option of providing bookstalls at Jubilee outside of key lectures where books are essential to the course.
Module conveners are asked to continue to supply reading lists to the bookshop via www.readinglists.co.uk or by contacting the University Park shop at nottingham@blackwell.co.uk.
Blackwell’s will continue to supply Jubilee Campus department orders as normal. Please contact notts.cpi@blackwell.co.uk for more information.
If you have any further queries about Blackwell’s services for Jubilee students or would like to discuss bookstall options for your course, please contact katie.chapman@blackwell.co.uk.

One year on from its launch, the Conference and Training Care Fund Guidance has been reviewed by the Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Board to make sure it is meeting your needs and achieving its goals.
Set up as an Athena Swan initiative to support career development for those with caring responsibilities for children, elderly relatives or other dependents, this fund enables you to claim back additional care costs incurred as a result of attending work related training and development events, in much the same way as you might for necessary travel costs and/or accommodation.
In response to initial uptake, the EDI Board has agreed two major changes to the scope of the guidance:
- It now includes internal development events, run by or at the University, as well as external ones. This may be particularly relevant if you need to attend internal conferences or courses on non-working days, or if you need to make additional arrangements to allow for earlier starts or later finishes than your normal working day.
- It now includes international events, not only those in the UK. This may be particularly relevant if you are looking to take part in development activities on our international campuses or attend a conference for professional development which is taking place overseas.
Authorisation is required by your line manager or appropriate budget holder, or through existing local conference/training approval routes, before a claim is submitted through Concur. Additional care must be provided by a registered care provider to ensure that this can be claimed as a non-taxable expense. Eligible activity includes training courses, development events and conferences. It should be noted that if you are speaking or presenting a paper at a conference this may not qualify – to be eligible the majority of the time at the conference or event must be spent on development activities, rather than in fulfilling normal work activity.
You can find the updated guidance, associated flowchart and authorisation form on the Conference and Training Care Fund webpage.
For further queries about the Conference and Training Care Fund please contact pd@nottingham.ac.uk.

Due to the popularity of the Brexit Briefing sessions, further workshops have been scheduled, giving European staff more choice of date and location for attending one of these interactive briefings. The objective is to provide guidance and information to non-UK, EU staff.
Led by Mills and Reeve LLP, these workshops will explore immigration-related matters, such as applications for permanent residence and British citizenship, looking at some common issues that affect university staff – such as the impact of regular travel abroad.
They will also look at the broader context of Brexit and issues facing colleagues from the EU.
Two sessions took place on Thursday 1 March at University Park and at Jubilee Campus.
Two further sessions have been scheduled for Monday 19 March at Sutton Bonington and Queen’s Medical Centre.

Thursday 8 March is International Women’s Day 2018. In celebration of this date, a number of activities and events are set to take place at the University of Nottingham.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
What’s on?
Events held at Nottingham to celebrate the day will include:
- Nottingham Presses for Progress!
12-4:30pm, Thursday 8 March
The University of Nottingham is joining with Nottingham Trent University to host this celebratory event, which will bring together our two university communities to celebrate the achievements of women in our city. Our inspirational speakers will share experiences within both academia and industry, provide local perspectives on recruiting, retaining and growing talent and leadership, and give valuable insight into how we can support gender equality within our university communities, higher education and more broadly.
- UoN/NTU joint Women’s Staff Network event
10am-2pm, Thursday 8 March
An informal event hosted by the Women’s Staff Networks from the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University, with the theme of ‘promoting wellbeing’. This drop-in event will be open to all existing members of the two networks, as well as anybody who is interested in finding out more about the networks.
- LeadMeet and networking lunch
12:30pm-2pm, Thursday 8 March
This event will feature short talks by a number of presenters, followed by a networking lunch. It is supported by the Faculty of Social Sciences and was facilitated by @WomensEd West Midlands.
- Inspiring Women through Sport
6pm-8:30pm, Thursday 8 March
An evening showcasing the career paths of women in different industries, and telling the story of the adversities and challenges that they overcame to get to where they are today.
For all the latest listings, visit the University of Nottingham events website.
As part of the day’s celebrations Vice-Chancellor Professor Shearer West will also launch two new initiatives from the Communications and Advocacy team, designed to help boost the visibility of the many talented women at Nottingham who have expertise to share. These initiatives are:
- The Nottingham Women Experts Network, which will include a series of free events and training, running throughout the year.
- A female-only hard-copy version of the Media Guide to Expertise, created in conjunction with Nottingham Trent University. This guide will be shared with media, public policymakers and other stakeholders to help end the excuse that ‘there are no women experts’ in any given subject.
We’ll also be introducing the Portrait Project — an exhibition to diversify portraiture at the University. Check back on the day to find out more details.
To learn more about International Women’s Day, please email the People and Culture team.
