The Office of Global Engagement (OGE) works across the University to facilitate and increase our levels of global engagement and implement the global engagement strategy.
Its move to External Relations (ER) will create synergies and improve alignment of the University’s global operations — bringing together OGE’s focus on global partnerships with ER’s focus on international student recruitment, global affairs and public relations.
The move will enable the OGE to draw on the support of ER in running global engagement campaigns while at the same time incorporating OGE’s general international intelligence into ER projects and activities.
The OGE management structure remains the same, with the office headed up by John Quirk as Director, supported by Gail Armistead as Associate Director with responsibility for student mobility partnerships, and Helen Foster as Associate Director with responsibility for international teaching partnerships. Lisa Stocks, Director, Inter-Campus Collaboration, is also part of the team, bringing a focus to this vital area of the University’s international offer.
All contact details remain the same, with the Office remaining on Floor C, Yang Fujia Building, Jubilee Campus (contact extension 84812).

Tickets are now available for a special performance as part of a new BBC1 documentary series about dementia and music.
The performance at Nottingham’s Royal Concert Hall will feature the Dementia Choir — where all the members have a form of and experience of dementia. The choir is made up of singers of various ages, with the youngest singer being 31 and the oldest being 87.
The event is part of a BBC1 documentary series with Vicky McClure. Filming of the series has included close involvement from the University of Nottingham’s MRI, Lakeside Arts and Institute of Mental Health. The performance aims to raise awareness of what music therapy can do for those living with dementia, and celebrate the hard work and personal journeys of the choir.
The performance will take place at 3pm, Wednesday 5 September at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham (doors open at 2pm). It will be filmed for broadcast on BBC1.
Tickets for this event are free but places are limited. To find out more and reserve a ticket, please visit the Royal Concert Hall website.
The University of Nottingham is also giving away two guest list tickets for the performance. Guest list invitees will be seated between 1.30-2.15pm on the day on a first come, first seated basis. To be in with a chance of winning one of these tickets, please email campusnews@nottingham.ac.uk by Wednesday 29 August 2018. Recipients of these two tickets will be selected at random on Thursday 30 August.

The Family Link scheme pairs our international students, academic visitors and their families with local residents to help them experience British culture and to give them a warm welcome to their new community.
The scheme is open to University staff, alumni and local residents.
How you can help
As a Family Link Host, you’ll meet up with students once per term (or more if desired) for a couple of hours each time. You could take a trip to Lakeside Arts, meet up for a coffee or invite your students over for a Sunday roast — the only limit is your imagination!
Find out more and apply on the Family Link website.
Applications close Friday 14 September 2018.

The University of Nottingham is leading an innovative pilot to transform white, male-dominated workforces in engineering and science to ones that comprise top talent from diverse backgrounds.
The UK’s economic future depends on broadening the engineering recruitment net to boost innovation and to tackle a growing national skills shortage across Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) subjects.
The collaborative project aims to uncover and remove barriers to inclusivity in the recruitment process to change workplace culture and behaviour long-term.
The goal is to radically overhaul how staff in STEMM roles are recruited, retained and rewarded at the University and beyond, and for the first time, in every job family – from academic to technical.

In the last update on the final stage of the implementation of Campus Solutions, we promised to share new implementation dates once the re-planning work had been completed. We can now confirm that we are planning to implement the remaining functionality from December 2018.
The student record element of the system will be operational from the end of December, with different staff groups gaining access to the system in the new year. Cutover — the period through which data is safely and securely migrated from legacy records systems into Campus Solutions — will begin in November.
The finance element of the system will go live at the start of the 2019/20 University financial year. Cutover for this will begin in April 2019.
The new schedule follows on from the postponed plan to implement these final elements of the system in the UK in August. The Project Transform Programme Board took this difficult decision to protect key activities around confirmation and clearing, registration and timetabling.
The Programme Board has agreed the schedule, and the project is now working on a detailed plan for implementation. This will be shared once it’s complete. This plan will include periods where some systems, such as Saturn or Moodle, will be unavailable or set as ‘read only’. We know that reduced functionality of these systems is disruptive, but we are working with Schools and Departments to identify timings that will have as little impact as possible on staff and students.
Campus Solutions user groups have been set up for each Faculty and for Professional Services. These groups will play a key part in determining how the new system will be implemented; commenting on demos; feeding back on suggested process changes; and helping to shape user profiles, along with the training and communications materials needed to embed the new systems and processes across the University.
Campus Solutions Implementation roadshows are also being planned to take place at the end of October. Dates and locations for these will be shared in the coming weeks. Like previous roadshows, these events will give colleagues the opportunity to see the new system. You will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the process of implementation.
We will share the key contacts for the Campus Solutions user groups over the coming weeks. Any urgent questions can be emailed to the project in the meantime.
