Update: Due to the reschedule of the go-live of Campus Solutions for UK Student Records, the Moodle and Rogo downtime described in this article will no longer need to take place in January. Both Moodle and Rogo will be available as normal throughout Monday 29 January through to Wednesday 31 January. If you have any questions about this please email projecttransform@nottingham.ac.uk.
The live versions of Moodle and Rogo will be unavailable between 6pm, Monday 29 January 2018 and 8pm, 31 January 2018 (UK time).
During this time we will be updating the module codes in the two systems to the new Campus Solutions codes and changing the source of authority for student enrolment on modules from Saturn to Campus Solutions. Student ID numbers are also being updated to include an extra digit (usually a 1) at the beginning.
Campus Solutions will replace Saturn for student records in early 2018. Both Moodle and Rogo will need to be updated to integrate with Campus Solutions. In order for us to be able to do this, live Moodle and Rogo will be unavailable for a period but a revision-only version will be available during this time.
The work is happening on these dates to ensure the changes are happening in time for the launch of the student portal MyNottingham. The dates for this downtime period were agreed by Teaching and Learning Executive Group (TLEG).
There will be a revision-only version of Moodle and Rogo available from 8pm on Monday 29 January 2018 until 6pm on Wednesday 31 January.
Students will be able to look at documents and resources but the revision-only version is not for submitting assignments or permanently interacting with forums or other modes of engagement. Whilst students will be able to take some activities such as quizzes, nothing that they submit or change will be saved in this revision only version of Moodle, and anything they have changed, submitted, or forum posts made or replied to, will not be available once the full live version is restored.
Staff should not make any changes to Moodle or Rogo during this period or do any marking as this will not be available on the live version when it becomes available again.
Students will be able to access self-tests in Rogo for revision purposes from 8pm Monday 29 January until 6pm on Wednesday 31 January 2018.
As a precaution, we would also recommend that staff or students download any particular resources that they need prior to 6pm on Monday 29 January. We will be communicating with students separately but would appreciate your assistance in passing the message on through any channels you have.
There will be a few hours at the beginning and end of this downtime window when the systems will be down completely. This is to allow the switch between the live and revision-only versions of the system.
After the update, both Moodle and Rogo will list modules using the new Campus Solutions module codes. When you log in you will see the title of the module as usual but the code in brackets will have changed to the new code. The title of the modules will remain the same. An example is:
Nineteenth Century French Narrative (R12051 UK) (SPR 17-18)
Will become
Nineteenth Century French Narrative (FREN2009 UNUK) (SPR1 17-18)
All the new module codes can be found on the Student Services Workspace.
The changes will not convert any module codes within resources. For example if you have used your module code inside PowerPoint presentations or documents, or descriptions or links within the module space. If you are an Editing Teacher of a Moodle module, you will need to update any references to the module code within your module space and resources when you are next updating the resource.
For the duration of 2017/18, you can use the new and old code side by side, for example ‘LAWW4035 (previously M34074)’, if it would aid understanding within a document.
We do not expect that all documents will be updated immediately. There will be some crossover for the remainder of this academic year when documents are not fully updated. However, we recommend that documents are updated as soon as possible where using the wrong module code could cause confusion. All documents should be reviewed ready for the 2018/19 year.
This period of downtime also affects China and Malaysia. In local time, their downtime will be from 2am on Tuesday 30 January until 4am on Thursday 1 February 2018.
As with the UK, staff and students in China and Malaysia will have access to the revision-only version of the two systems during the downtime. Nothing changed in the revision–only version of Moodle and Rogo will be preserved.
There will be no further changes to the UNNC and UNMC module codes in this update as these were updated earlier this year when Campus Solutions was implemented locally.
Thank you for your support during this time.
