The University of Nottingham in Malaysia (UNMC) is holding events throughout 2015 to celebrate 15 years as a pioneer of transnational education.
For the next 15 weeks, in the build-up to the anniversary on 26 September, we will be sharing stories and news from the people who have worked and studied at the Malaysia campus over the years.
You can find out about all the memories, research and events, gathered from social media (#UNMC15) and the Malaysia Campus Life blog, in a weekly-round up published on our internal channels.
This week’s highlights are:
1. UNMC #Throwback – a walk down memory lane with a photo-led blog on the early days in Malaysia
2. Twitter facts and stats on the milestones and research at UNMC
3. The world’s biggest flower and frog-eating and poisonous plants all feature in a blog by UNMC’s Prof Christophe Wiart, who has spent many years in Malaysia’s ancient rainforests exploring the medicinal properties of its flora
If you have a story to tell on your experiences at UNMC, please contact emma.lowry@nottingham.ac.uk, and you will be put into a prize draw for travel vouchers worth £200.

There are a number of works taking place around Nottingham which may affect travel to our campuses in July.
Lenton
As part of finishing tram works, traffic on Lenton Lane and Gregory Street, between the junction with Willow Road and the junction with Old Church Street, will be controlled by temporary traffic lights from Saturday 4 July for approximately one week.
From Saturday 4 to Saturday 18 July, Abbey Bridge will be under two-way signal control for finishing works, with the Gregory Street junction closed while works are ongoing.
University Boulevard
As part of the expansion of Nottingham’s tram network to Beeston and Chilwell, overnight works to finish surfacing the road are due to take place on University Boulevard on the nights of Saturday 4 July and Sunday 5 July. From 8pm to 5am on both nights, University Boulevard will be closed to traffic heading towards the city from its junction with Broadgate and Woodside Road to its junction with Queen’s Road East. A localised diversion will be in place. In addition, University Boulevard will be closed to traffic heading away from the city from its junction with Queen’s Road East to its junction with Broadgate and Woodside Road. Instead a signed localised diversion will be in place. During these times, University Boulevard will remain open to traffic heading in either direction from Queen’s Road East.
At a stage between 8pm and 6am, there will be a lane closure lasting two hours and as a result traffic heading out of the city on University Boulevard and wanting to turn into Queen’s Road East will have to turn right towards the Broadgate roundabout, where it will turn back on itself, go back along University Boulevard and then turn right into Queen’s Road East at the traffic lights.
For more information about these and other works, visit our Works affecting travel to our campuses webpage.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust have provided an update on the timescales for implementation of their new parking permits.
Thousands of staff, volunteers and other partners applied for new parking permits at QMC, City Hospital and both campus before the deadline of Tuesday 30 June.
Regrettably, Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) will not be ready to introduce the new parking arrangements on 1 August as planned. Current parking arrangements will be extended until further notice (and until a new date is communicated).
This is due to the fact that new equipment (barriers etc) required to manage the use of our car parks will not be in place in time, for commercial reasons. NUH also require a little longer to work their way through the 6,000 plus applications they have received and reorganise the use of car parks ready for the new car parking management arrangements.
When the new permits come into use, car parks will be managed very differently to avoid the congestion and problems motorists have with the present arrangements. This will include financial penalties for both patients and staff who park inappropriately (including those who park without a permit). NUH will ensure that there are clear messages on all of these new arrangements, which are close to being finalised. NUH will communicate as soon as possible the revised dates for informing staff when you will hear the outcome of your application and the revised ‘go live’ date for the new permits.
NUH will also provide updates on the timescales for lifting the current pause on applications for permits so that there is an ongoing process (clearly communicated) for staff and new starters to apply for permits moving forwards.

Dr Clare Burrage has been awarded the Maxwell medal and prize by the Institute of Physics (IOP) for outstanding contributions to the field of dark energy research.
The award is presented to Dr Burrage, Royal Society University Research Fellow and proleptic lecturer in The University of Nottingham’s School of Physics and Astronomy, for her research into dark energy, in particular for the development of methods of testing for fifth forces from astrophysical probes through to atom interferometry experiments.
Dr Burrage said: “I felt very honoured just to be nominated for the award. When I heard that the IOP had decided to give it to me I was stunned.”
