There has never been a more urgent time to migrate your Z: drive data to OneDrive.
The Z: drive is reaching the end of its serviceable life. You must migrate important and current data now.
Chief Digital Officer, David Hill said: “Our existing storage technologies have certainly served us well but are now in need of costly upgrades and replacements.
“Maintaining the existing drives carries growing risk, and this is our opportunity to bring about a new way of storing our data.”
Migrate your Z: drive data now – for more information visit the OneDrive Sharepoint page or contact your local Campus IT Support. If you are and EndNote user please see this additional guide.
Work to make your personal Z: drive “read only” has been temporarily paused during these unprecedented times to ensure continuity and improve user access to their data and ability to migrate as a matter of urgency.
Specialist teams have begun engaging with R: and S: drive data owners with the aim to arrange relocation to Office 365 or dedicated and purpose-built facilities in the future.
If you are an R: and S: drive data owner please contact your local Campus IT Support.

The online information security training modules are still available for those who haven’t yet completed them.
It is strongly recommend that you make the time to complete them as our new normal includes a lot of anxiety and distraction, and this makes us particularly vulnerable to scams and phishing emails. These modules will help you to spot such emails and to protect your data and your device.
Because of the new pressures we are under, we ask that you complete these modules on a best endeavours basis. To support that, the completion date deadline has been extended to Sunday 31 May.
If you haven’t completed the training modules yet, you will receive a reminder email which will include a personalised link to the training.
They should only take around 30 minutes to complete, depending on how much you already know about the subject.
They will be available until Sunday 31 May.

Universities UK (UUK) has published a paper outlining a proposed sector bailout package, which it frames as a set of measures to enable universities to play a critical role in rebuilding the nation.
Arguing that universities are central to developing skills, knowledge and research – as well as driving regeneration, social mobility and innovation – it proposes a mixture of direct funding, loans and clarifications of wider government measures to get the sector through the crisis.
Signalling potential changes to the shape and size of the sector, its proposals include a transformation fund to support universities over the next two to three years to “reshape and consolidate” through federations and partnerships – or potentially mergers with other higher education institutions, further education colleges or private providers.
And to mitigate the impact on the research base, UUK proposes the government increases QR funding by 100%, increases innovation funding to assist in re-balancing the economy, and is supporting local growth and reskilling.
There are proposals to bring “stability” to undergraduate recruitment. UUK proposes a one-year cap on UK and EU undergraduate recruitment in England and Wales at 2020-2021 numbers plus 5%, along with a guarantee that universities must accept any applicant holding a place as conditional firm that meets the offer requirement. These “student stability” measures would be underpinned by a new sector agreement on fair admissions practices ruling out undue pressure on students, and new rules restricting volume use of unconditional offers.
It also proposes measures on reskilling, through growth in part-time provision and flexible adult learning; the lifting of ELQ restrictions; measures to support retention and progression, particularly for those students from disadvantaged backgrounds; and targeted support for small and specialist institutions.
While the Government has yet to respond to the UUK proposals, our University like most others, will still need to make some serious but achievable savings of 15% to 2020/21 budgets to ensure we can continue to deliver our mission long into the future.
To carry out these savings, we will be expecting budget-holders to make reductions in non-pay spend as far as possible, for example reducing spend on travel, utilities, conferencing, subscriptions and events. You can find out more on Campus News.

Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Long, FREng, has been awarded the Leslie Holliday Prize in this year’s IOM3 Awards.
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining presents a range of awards, medals and prizes to recognise personal achievement, for published work and for contributions to the profession.
Awards are presented at special occasions throughout the year, like the IOM3 Awards, and some award winners deliver lectures, to which all members are invited.
Speaking about the prize, Professor Long said: “I’m delighted to receive this award from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. It means a lot to me to have my research on advanced materials over many years to be recognised in this way.”
Professor Long was awarded the Leslie Holliday Prize in recognition of his work with advanced, lightweight composite material over the last three decades. These materials consist of carbon or glass fibres combined with a polymer resin and are used extensively in the aerospace, automotive and wind energy sectors.
His research has focused particularly on the development of computer simulations to optimise manufacturing processes and material design, including through the development of the open source “TexGen” computer model for composite materials which has been downloaded by more than 30,000 users worldwide.

Final-year medical students at the University of Nottingham are being graduated early, while nursing students go into extended placements to support the NHS response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Over 250 final-year medical students who have passed their final exams and completed their clinical skills and fitness to practice assessments will be graduated on Wednesday 8 April.
They will then be eligible to grain provisional registration to practice with the General Medical Council. Under normal circumstances they would commence their Foundation Year 1 training in August but are being given the opportunity to opt in to the Foundation Interim Year 1 programme led by Health Education England.
This will enable them to carry out a range of duties such as note taking, ordering investigations and completing discharge work until they commence their formal training in August.
Professor John Atherton, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the University of Nottingham’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, said: “Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures and we are incredibly proud that our talented graduates are able to step up to support the NHS in its hour of need, responding to the unprecedented pressures created by this coronavirus pandemic.”
Meanwhile in the School of Health Sciences, almost 200 University of Nottingham student nurses will go into extended paid placements for a minimum of 12 weeks.
As of Tuesday 7 April 172 of these student nurses are expected to stay at local Trusts across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, including Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Nottingham Citycare Partnership, Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust.
Professor Joanne Lymn, Dean and Head of the School of Health Sciences, said: “We are exceptionally proud of our student nurses who are able to go onto placement to support the national health service. These are challenging circumstances for us all and their courage and commitment to the profession is extraordinary.”
In light of current restrictions around the coronavirus pandemic, UK graduation ceremonies have been postponed but our early-graduating medics will still have the opportunity to celebrate at a later date.
On behalf of everyone at the University of Nottingham we’d like to extend our congratulations and thanks to these students, as well as to all staff who helped make it possible.

People across the University are finding creative ways to keep in touch with colleagues remotely and maintain some social interaction during these difficult times.
With Easter fast approaching the Sustainable Processing Technologies group have set up an online Easter Egg hunt for people to take part in.
Eggs have been hidden (with all necessary precautions taken) around the labs and pictures have been posted online. When you click on the picture it takes you to some information about the group and their research.
There is also a codon associated with each egg, which when translated into its corresponding amino acid will spell a word – anyone entering the word online gets the chance to win a kids chemistry set or soft toy microbe.
The hunt has been set up by Christof Jaeger, who said: “As a group we’re used to working closely together in the lab so we are missing that interaction with each other. I thought this would be a fun way to lift the spirits and connect with colleagues and friends in the lead up to Easter.”
