Westminster Hall Debate on science and research in the UK and regional economies

June 17th, 2015

On Wednesday 24 June from 9.30am to 11am, MPs from across the House of Commons and the Minister for Universities and Science, Rt. Hon Jo Johnson MP will come together to take part in a Westminster Hall Debate on science and research in the UK and regional economies. This debate takes place ahead of the Wednesday 8 July Emergency Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review that will be announced later in the autumn.

The Debate is the result of an initiative undertaken by The University of Nottingham and The University of Oxford – in conjunction with other institutions across UK higher education and supported by bodies such as UUK, the Campaign for Science and Engineering and the Royal Society. Nottingham South MP, Lilian Greenwood submitted the first expression of interest for the topic and has helped guide the University in asking MPs from all over the UK to help secure the Debate.

Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central will kick-off the discussion on Wednesday morning – and you can follow the debate on Twitter by following our Head of Public Affairs, Alex Miles (@alextomiles) who will be live-tweeting from the Gallery.

If you are interested in the Hansard record of the debate – and in particular what was said about Nottingham – then please contact alex.miles@nottingham.ac.uk
