Gary Head, Managing Director for Alternative Distribution at Hiscox and Nottingham alumnus, joins Nottingham University Business School to share insights from his career in insurance.

Gary has been instrumental in building the Hiscox firm’s market leading position as insurer of professional and service based businesses throughout the UK and Europe. Hiscox are also the leading European provider of specialist cover and services for high net worth individuals.

Gary is a University of Nottingham alumnus, graduating with a BSc in Physics – not a conventional route into a career in the insurance industry. He joined Hiscox in 1996 to help develop the professions side of the business and has since launched the Professional Insurances Portfolio, providing a one-stop-shop general insurance solution for small and mid-sized professionals. He also spent three years in New York City setting up the American arm of Hiscox. Gary has particular expertise in the area of professional indemnity.

In addition to profitable organic growth, Gary has overseen a number of successful acquisitions of professional liability accounts and also established Managing General Agent and European divisions to back selected partners in the specialist lines where Hiscox operate. Before joining Hiscox, Gary worked exclusively on the broking side of the insurance industry in a variety of roles and companies in the London market.
