This event showcases initiatives and the provision of service for disabled staff and students, allies, managers and anyone who wants to know more about the support available at UoN.
Attendees will be updated with the changes that are being made across the university to increase support. The event is being run in conjunction with the HealthyU Campaign.
The theme for Disability Recognition Month is ‘Disability, Health and Wellbeing’.

What does it mean to be disability inclusive?
Adam Lester, Associate Director of Disability Services
An insight into the Disability-Inclusive Nottingham project and what it takes to be inclusive at the university. The initial scope of the project will be outlined including the support required from the whole university.
Health promotion and inclusive activities
Laura Walker, Health Promotion
A guide to health promotion resources, support, activities and upcoming events which can be found across the university, based around themes from the Five Ways to Wellbeing.
Disabled Students’ Network: what’s new?
Sam Ferris, UoNSU Disabled Officer
An introduction from the new UoN Students’ Union Disabled Students’ Officer, Sam Ferris. Sam will provide an overview of what the Disabled Students’ Network does, as well as updates, plans for the future and information on how to get involved.
Improving the accessibility of our university campuses: learn about a new digital system

Learn more about how the university is working with AccessAble to survey all of its UK campuses to create a new digital accessibility system. David Livermore from AccessAble will deliver a short demo session to showcase what staff and students can expect from the new digital system.

Creating accessible materials does not have to be difficult, and many accessibility issues can be dealt with by adopting a few straightforward habits. In this talk, Julian will outline seven everyday habits that will help you produce more professional content that is widely accessible to people with different needs.
Disability: Rights and Responsibilities

Legal services and HR will deliver a joint presentation that informs staff about:
– What a disability is, according to the Equality Act
– How to disclose a disability
– What reasonable adjustments are, according to the Equality Act
– Current and future support for disabled staff
