University of Nottingham Student Shortlisted in National Competition

September 15th, 2016

A student at the University of Nottingham has been shortlisted in a national radio script writing competition.

Ellie McCall, 20, is one of five finalists in Creating Waves 2016, a competition to write a radio ad on the subject of National Accident Helpline’s Accident Awareness Week.

Ellie, from Grimsby, said: “I entered this competition because it is my absolute dream to work in radio. I’m a part of the university’s student radio, URN, and saw this as a fantastic opportunity to win a work placement within Global; and what better way than to practice skills I would need if lucky enough to one day work for them! I hadn’t written a script since I studied Drama at GCSE so it’s really encouraged me to get back into it.”

The winner will gain a work placement with Global, the media & entertainment group which is home to some of the UK’s best loved radio brands including Heart, Capital, Capital XTRA, Classic FM, Smooth, LBC, Radio X and Gold. They will also have their script made into a real life ad with professional voice actors.

Simon Forster, Regional Creative Director at Global, is one of the judges for Creating Waves. He said that Ellie’s script was chosen as a finalist because of its “clear target audience and clear explanation of radio ad scenario and characters.”

As a finalist, Ellie will be able to tour Global’s famous studios in London’s Leicester Square and rub shoulders with top presenters like Chris Moyles, Emma Bunton, Jamie Theakston, Lisa Snowdon and Vernon Kay.
