Research Exchange
World-leading experts in quantum technologies, energy and the digital economy will gather at The University of Nottingham to discuss how they collaborate on a global scale.
The Building Global Engagements conference takes place at the Sir Colin Campbell Building on Jubilee Campus on Wednesday 6 March. It brings together delegates from institutions which have been part of the Building Global Engagements project, which was launched in April 2012.
Funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the project saw academics from Nottingham engaging with colleagues from 30 institutions across North America, India and South Korea.
As well as technical sessions hosted by University of Nottingham experts, the conference will also include sessions on country-specific challenges in research collaborations, EU funding and the future of international collaborations.
Since the project started in April 2012, the University has been able to develop foundations for the long term as well as work that is already yielding advances. Nottingham’s expertise in developing cold-atom quantum technologies led to collaborative research and grant applications with Rutgers University in the USA.
The relationship has progressed from individuals on both sides having mutual research interests, to both groups actively exploring opportunities to collaborate together on future large scale projects.
“With our campuses in China and Malaysia, we’re ideally placed to foster these international collaborations,” said Professor Chris Ennew, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Provost of The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus. “So far Building Global Engagements has forged new relationships as well as developing established ones.
“This conference will give those involved the chance to reflect on work done so far, as well as looking to the future of the project. What challenges are we facing? Where do we go next? It’s very exciting.”
