Family Fun Day

Willughby day 800x600

Try your hand at a range of activities inspired by the Francis Willughby exhibition.

Have a go at creating your own bird or bug mobile, design your own insect, try to solve our fiendishly difficult ‘muddle puzzles’ or learn more about Nottinghamshire’s famous naturalist with a guided tour of the Francis Willughby exhibition currently hosted by the Manuscripts and Special Collections department.

The day’s activities include:

  • Art and craft activities. Create a bird or bug mobile, use foam-printing to design your own insect, try your hand at badge-making and much more.
  • Quiz. Explore the Francis Willughby exhibition and solve the clues as you go along.
  • Meet a Golden Eagle
  • Dress as Francis Willughby and become a Natural Historian
  • Join our Park Ranger for guided rambles at 12noon, 1.30pm and 3pm

There will also be a guided tour of the Francis Willughby exhibition at 12noon with the curator Dr Dorothy Johnston. Learn more about who Francis Willughby was, his link to Wollaton Hall, and how the exhibition was put together. The tour will last approximately 30 minutes.

All activities are free and open to everyone. Apart from the guided tour of the Francis Willughby exhibition, all activities are drop-in and there is no need to book. Spaces for the guided tour are limited – please book with Manuscripts and Special Collections on 0115 951 4565 or mss-library@nottingham.ac.uk.
