Upgrading Campus Solutions – December 2021

September 27th, 2021

We would like to give you early notice of our intention to upgrade Campus Solutions in December. This upgrade will ensure we all move to using the latest version of Campus Solutions (version 9.2).

The new version includes tools to make working with the system easier for staff and students. Moving to the new version also enables us to develop, improve and simplify the system in the future to meet our requirements.

The upgrade is expected to take place on the weekend of 11 and 12 December 2021 – the system will be unavailable during this weekend. Staff and students will be kept informed and will be fully supported as they move to using the upgraded system.

Please note that this is a sizeable and technical piece of work. In the first instance, you will notice very little that is different after the upgrade as it will be the underlying core system that will be changed. The link for accessing Campus Solutions (mynottingham.nottingham.ac.uk) will change after the upgrade to hub.nottingham.ac.uk, but anyone using the old link will automatically be redirected to the new one. The login screen will also have a new, more contemporary look.

What will the upgrade mean for academic staff?

After the upgrade, academic staff will be able to continue to use the academic part of Campus Solutions, the Academic Workcentre, as they do today. The only difference they will notice will be that the tiles in the Academic Workcentre will be a different colour, with new icons. The names of the tiles will remain the same.

What will the upgrade mean for APM (Administrative, Professional and Managerial) staff that use Campus Solutions?

After the upgrade, the two changes that APM staff will experience will be:

  • Instead of accessing the menu at the top of the screen, staff will access a new-look menu on the right of the screen (the NavBar).
  • A new Help box (tile) will be available on the Campus Solutions homepage. Help information will be added into here over time.

What will the upgrade mean for applicants and students?

Applicants and students currently use two systems called MyNottingham:

  • The university’s student mobile app is called MyNottingham. This app and name will remain unchanged.
  • The student-facing part of Campus Solutions is also called MyNottingham. To avoid confusion between this and the mobile app, the MyNottingham part of Campus Solutions will be renamed to NottinghamHub as part of this upgrade.

The new name ‘NottinghamHub’ was chosen by asking a focus group of students, along with consulting with various university departments and representatives from our China and Malaysia campuses.

After the upgrade, the changes that applicants and students will experience will be:

  • Applicants and students will see a new homepage with a new set of square tiles, replacing the current hexagonal buttons. The names of the tiles may be different to what they see today.
  • The design and layout of the screens will change as the screens will become more mobile device friendly. The new screens will also have more built-in accessibility options for students with a disability. Some screens will not be updated in December, and these will be updated over time.

Due to the size of the work involved, there are plans in place to make sure we can operate effectively if there are any interruptions to the upgrade. Should it become absolutely essential, we have the option to move the upgrade to a later date in 2022 (initially identified as April 2022).

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work to implement this upgrade. Further guidance and support will be given to you over the coming weeks, in preparation for it.

If you have any questions please email DTS-Communications@nottingham.ac.uk.
