Update on marks processing and Exam Boards

February 4th, 2020

To help manage the volume of marks that are currently being processed, we’re asking academic colleagues to submit your completed marks as soon as possible.

Please note the following points:

  • The deadline for submitting marks is Wednesday 12 February. It is anticipated that marks returned on Wednesday 12 February will be processed by Friday 14 February.
  • Any changes following exam boards should be returned by 12noon on Tuesday 18 February to ensure marks released to students on Thursday 20 February include your changes.
  • Student Services colleagues are aware of the dates for interim Exam Boards and will work with you to ensure you have the information required to run your Board.

We have identified that students will not appear on marksheets if there is an issue with their module enrolment. The marksheet completion guidelines provide guidance on how to add missing students into marksheets. Any amendments that you make must be highlighted to Student Services either by adding a note (as detailed in the guidelines) or by contacting the relevant Student Services assessment team. The team are also on hand if you require further assistance.

Resit marksheets for 2018/19 modules being reassessed in January 2020 will be distributed to academic colleagues this week by Student Services. We would like to remind you that Saturn is the authoritative source of all marks for the 2018/19 year, therefore we will be inputting resit marks into Saturn. Student marks will be moved into Campus Solutions for students that qualify for an award or are continuing with their studies.

The functional and technical rehearsal of marks processing and Exam Boards has indicated that marksheets can be generated, marks can be uploaded and the various calculations can take place as required.  The Language Centre and Medicine PGT had early Exam Boards last week and a workaround was put in place to manage this.

The Exam Boards User Group recently met to review marks and Exam Board reports that have been generated by the functional and technical rehearsal. Colleagues reviewed the reports and verified the calculations that the system generated. The group identified that the process for incorporating Extenuating Circumstances and generating Exam Board reports is different in various schools, so they will agree on a recommended best practice approach. The group will be meeting again on Wednesday 5 February.

Marks processing and Exam Boards FAQs and tips for using Business Intelligence (BI) reports, along with other useful information, are now available for you to view on Workspace.
