Speakers needed for Student Union Black History Month event

July 19th, 2022

The university’s Students’ Union are looking ahead to plans for Black History Month in October 2022.

During this annual celebration aimed at promoting and recognising Black contributions to society and understanding Black history, they aim to engage in this important conversation through a programme of events including a carnival, film screening, forum discussion on issues affecting students, and many more.

To close the month, they would like to host a guest to talk about their experiences, work, research, or other project they are involved in such as campaigning work or community project.

There is no theme to the celebrations, and the call is open to any topic a speaker is passionate about sharing. The aim of the talk is to develop the understanding and skills of our students as well as motivate them to act or get involved with local schemes and projects.

It is hoped that this talk will prompt conversations around change to continue and be acted upon; Black History Month is not something that should be reserved for one month only.

This event will be open and actively advertised to the entire student body and staff of the Union and university as part of Black History Month.

If you are interested in sharing your work or passion, please contact the Student Union’s Campaigns and Liberation Coordinator, Ginny.

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. If you could email Ginny, our SU Campaigns and Liberation Officer letting her know you’re interested in speaking, she’ll be able to help. Thanks.
