The first Maternity/Adoption/Shared Parental Leave focus groups have taken place, following up on some of the feedback gained from the Athena SWAN survey earlier this year.
32 staff and line managers from across the institution have attended so far. Attendees have rated the groups highly and enjoyed making their contribution. At times it was a challenge to bring some of the interesting conversations to a close!
Flexible Working was one topic which generated much discussion. The HR team are planning to implement guidance on Flexible Working in September.
We’d like to thank everyone who made time to come and contribute. The insights and ideas gained have been valuable and will shape the Athena SWAN Action Plan to support both staff and line managers better in this area.
It is clear from the feedback captured in August, that one action in response should be an improved Maternity Checklist to prompt discussion and action, to help both the staff member and line manager navigate the way from pregnancy/adoption placement to returning to work.
Further focus groups at QMC, Sutton Bonington and Derby are planned for October and November, for both staff and line managers.
All the feedback captured will be used to shape a long term action plan to address these issues.
