Restrictions to overflow parking on campus for open day: Friday 24 June 2022

June 21st, 2022

Approximately 800 overflow car parking spaces will be unavailable to use on University Park campus during the forthcoming open day on Friday 24 June 2022.

There will be no parking spaces available on either Florence Boot Field or Willoughby Field during this time, which would usually be used for visitors during open days.

This could cause a knock-on effect to capacity of other car parking facilities on campus, as well as potential traffic and congestion issues when entering or leaving the site.

Staff are requested to avoid bringing their car to campus on Friday 24 June 2022 wherever possible.

Members of staff who would normally use their car may want to consider alternative travel arrangements for getting to and from the university, including trambus or cycling.

Security staff will be on duty as usual and will be able to help out with advice and support for anyone with questions on the day.

Parking capacity is expected to return back to normal from W/C 27 June.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Perhaps our employer could consider reserving some spaces for ‘essential staff’ on open days, ie those holding them. I can’t get to work solely on public transport and it would take 2 hours each way even then. My journey to work normally takes 35 mins in the car. I am an admissions tutor – so if I can’t get to work then my job doesn’t get done on the days it needs doing. There is no point getting all the prospective students and their families onto campus if you can’t get the staff there to speak to them.

Hi Jane, thanks for getting in touch. The article is asking members of staff that can make alternate arrangements to get onto campus to do so – those who cannot are free to drive onto campus if they need, but should take into consideration the impact of the parking space closures. Thanks, hope that helps.

Does this apply to the Saturday open day too?

Hi. This does not apply to Saturday’s open day, no. Thanks.

I just googled “University of Nottingham Open Day Parking” and the first item that came up was this:

https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/ugstudy/visitingus/opendays/open-day-travel-information.aspx

which states that “we have cancelled our open days in June”. Now careful reading shows that it’s an old webpage, but my worry is that some visitors won’t read it carefully. I think the page needs taking down.
