Important changes to the Regulations on Academic Misconduct

September 24th, 2018

The Regulations on Academic Misconduct changed on Monday 24 September 2018. Updated templates and documents are being made available on the relevant University webpages.

Students should ensure that they familiarise themselves with both the new Policy and Procedure, before undertaking any assessments. If students have any questions regarding these changes or the impact on any assessments, they should seek advice from their tutor or module convenor. The changes include:

  • False Authorship as a newly specified category of academic misconduct
  • Clarification that the submission of false extenuating circumstances claims can be academic misconduct
  • Details regarding the notification of allegations of academic misconduct and what to expect in a School meeting
  • The grounds required to self-refer a case to the Academic Misconduct Committee
  • The inclusion of a virtual panel
  • The grounds required to request a review

As part of the changes, all members of staff responsible for investigating allegations of academic misconduct should attend Academic Misconduct Officer training. This training is compulsory for all Academic Misconduct Officers (or equivalent), new and old, as per the Office of the Independent Adjudicator’s Recommendations on Best Practice and will differ to training provided in the past.

Available dates for these sessions are as follows:

  • 10am-12pm, Wednesday 3 October: B1 Hemsley Building, University Park
  • 1-3pm, Wednesday 10 October: B13, Main Building, Sutton Bonington

To register your attendance for either of the above sessions please email academic-misconduct@nottingham.ac.uk.

If you are unable to attend any of the available dates, please contact the Complaints and Conduct team at the above email address who will arrange further training dates, subject to demand.
