The university is once again taking part in the national ESRC Festival of Social Science, celebrating its 20-year anniversary this year.

Events will take place across the country and online from Saturday 22 October – Sunday 13 November, bringing a wide range of Social Sciences research to the people of Nottinghamshire.

Events hosted by the University of Nottingham this year include:

• Why place is important to me – an event exploring the benefits of volunteering in your local green spaces – Saturday 22 October
• Song writing for and with children – two interactive workshops, one for children and one for parents/carers/educators, looking at song writing techniques – Monday 24 October
• How can youth voice and engagement make a difference to achieving a Net Zero Nottingham? – presentation showcasing  the work of the Nottingham Youth Climate Assembly – Sunday 30 October
• Remembering the transatlantic cotton workers: the enslaved and female workers behind the East Midlands cotton textile industry – a film screening from community-led projects on the histories and legacies of transatlantic slavery and female work in the East Midlands cotton textile industry – Saturday 12 November
• Knitting together: how does knitting and crochet connect us to people and place? – an interactive workshop exploring how craft connects us – Sunday 13 November

Professor Alison Park, interim ESRC Executive Chair, said:

“The ESRC Festival of Social Science offers a fascinating insight into some of the country’s leading social science research and its relevance to individuals, society and the economy.

This year we are celebrating the festival’s 20th birthday with over 400 free events across the UK, including at the University of Nottingham.  We hope the events are enjoyable and inspiring.”

Events are all free of charge and are aimed at a variety of different audiences.
