Campus incident – Police investigation

June 17th, 2019

We are very sorry to inform colleagues of an instance of robbery on the University Park campus in the early hours of this morning, Monday 17 June.

Two male students were approached by three men who took items including a bag and mobile phone. The students received injuries during the robbery, which were not life-threatening but required hospital treatment, and they are receiving full support from our student welfare teams.

Campus security teams are supporting Nottinghamshire Police with their enquiries and reviewing CCTV footage to identify the offenders. In the meantime, police and our campus security teams are mounting additional patrols to assure safety, and are reviewing lighting and CCTV provision.

Staff and students are being advised to take sensible precautions if studying or travelling around campus late at night, and follow our standard safety advice, in particular:

  • walk with friends
  • tell someone where you are
  • keep to well-lit areas
  • conceal any valuables on your person

Police are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact them on 101, quoting incident 35 of 17 June 2019.

Please be assured that our campus remains a safe place to study and the chances of becoming a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour are very low.
