Building our reputation — Discover Our World

June 19th, 2017

A message from Professor Sir David Greenaway, Vice-Chancellor, University of Nottingham:

“As a pioneering university with an ambitious vision, we have much to be proud of.

“From our excellent teaching that inspires our many students, and our ground-breaking research that transforms lives, to our beautiful campuses, and warm, welcoming staff, student and alumni communities across the world — these are the foundations on which our University is built.

“But we cannot afford to stand still in this increasingly competitive environment. To secure our future as a world-leading university, we must share our great strengths with conviction, integrity, and consistency. We must focus on our different stakeholders and better understand their needs, asking them to embrace and become part of the extraordinary world that is the University of Nottingham.

“This is why I am delighted to announce the official launch of our very first global reputation campaign, Discover Our World — to share our stories, increase awareness, raise our profile, and enhance our reputation. Led by External Relations, the campaign aims to inspire and engage our partners and stakeholders by sharing the significant achievements of our staff and students.

“It is often a challenge to communicate the very essence of our great University to all of our audiences — this integrated campaign is the first step in doing this. From this week you will see a series of initiatives that support the Discover Our World campaign including:

  • press and media relations activity
  • social media
  • events
  • thought leadership activity
  • a campaign microsite
  • advertising in key locations in Nottingham city centre, London and Birmingham
  • online and print advertising in local and national newspapers.

“You will also begin to see materials across our campuses in the UK from this week.

“At the heart of this reputation-building is our vision for research. Crucial to this campaign is sharing our research stories; how we secure sustainable food supplies, end slavery, develop greener transport, reduce our reliance on fossil reserves, and develop personalised medicine. By sharing our stories and our research strengths with a global audience we aim to:

  • encourage the brightest and best students to come and study with us
  • attract and retain talented researchers
  • nurture collaborations across the globe
  • enhance our reputation.

“This is an exciting time for all of us at the University of Nottingham as we take positive steps to enhance our global reputation and our profile. I want to thank you all for the hard work and commitment that make achieving our ambitious goals a reality, and I ask you to support this campaign by getting involved where you can.”

With best wishes
Professor Sir David Greenaway
