I have recently learned that my grandmother, Rosa Kammer, was assisted/employed by two former University of Nottingham professors during the years she was a war refugee (1939-1948) from Vienna. I have found letters of recommendation that Professors J.D. Chambers and Robert Peers wrote on her behalf in 1944 (at that time she was seeking permission to emigrate to the USA to join her son who she was separated from in 1939). Ms. Rosa Kammer’s husband was killed in a concentration camp in Poland, her son (my father) was transported to the USA (at age 8) and did not see his mother until 1948. My family was fortunate to share the love of Rosa Kammer until her death in 1973.
I would very much like to locate one or more relatives of the named professors to share the kind letters that were written and to thank them for what they did on behalf of my family.
I will be in England for 2 weeks this summer (June) and would like your assistance to identify any individual who may be willing to speak or meet with me.
Please let me know how you can assist in located a relative of either or both of the esteemed professors. I see that your University has archives of both of these individual’s work.
