Big wins at BUCS Big Wednesday

University of Nottingham Sport finished the 2015/16 BUCS season in phenomenal style in Sheffield by winning five of their final day matches at the BUCS Big Wednesday event on 16 March.

Sitting comfortably in third place in the BUCS table, Nottingham started the day with a strong determination and passion to take home the gold. Cup finals took place throughout the day across Sheffield and saw our Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Squash and Men’s Lacrosse were competing for the coveted title of Nationals Champions. While our Men’s Fencing, Women’s Squash, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Table Tennis 2nd, Men’s Waterpolo and Rugby league 1 were looking to win in their Trophy finals.

Championship teams

GOLD: Table Tennis Women’s 1 vs. Nottingham Trent 1

GOLD: Table Tennis Men’s 1 vs. Nottingham Trent 1

GOLD: Squash Women’s 1 vs. Birmingham 1. Final score: 4-1 to UoN.

SILVER: Squash Men’s 1 vs. UWE 1. Final score: 3-2 to UWE.

SILVER: Lacrosse Men’s 1 vs. Durham 1. Final score: 12 -9 to Durham.

Trophy teams

GOLD: Rugby league 1 vs. Bath 1st. Final score: 34-22 to UoN.

GOLD: Table Tennis Men’s 2 vs. Sheffield 2. Final score: 9-7 to Sheffield.

GOLD: Womens Basketball vs. Hertfordshire. Final score: 68-46 to UoN.

SILVER: Waterpolo 1 vs. Exeter 1. Final score: 5-1 to Exeter.

SILVER: Squash Women’s 2 vs. Birmingham 2. Final score: 4-0 to Birmingham.

SILVER: Fencing Men’s 1 vs. Swansea. Final result: 122 – 121 to Nottingham.

Epee – Nottingham, 40-34

Foil – Swansea, 45-36

Sabre – Nottingham, 45-43

Total medal count: five Gold and six Silvers.
