Switch to Office 365: staff email is headed for the cloud

March 11th, 2016

Starting in April, Information Services will be making some important and exciting changes to the way that University email and calendaring services are delivered.

The University has already been using the Microsoft Office 365 email service for students in the UK, UNNC and UNMC campuses for a number of years and the service will now be extended to University staff. The switch to Microsoft Office 365 will entail moving our current localised email service to a hosted, cloud-based solution, providing greater resilience at a reduced cost to the University.

What are the benefits of moving email to Office 365?

Moving staff email and calendaring to Office 365 is the first major step in the redesign of Workplace Computing across our global University, which will ultimately include access to a full suite of Office 365 services. Following the move to Office 365 for staff email, for the first time, we will possess a single email service across our global campuses with web access from any device.

How we’ll keep you informed

For now, no immediate action is required, but Information Services will provide regular communications about the changes via University news channels (including Campus News) and will also publish a series of Frequently Asked Questions, as well as making direct contact with schools and departments.

In the meantime, if you have any queries about the upcoming move to Office 365, please contact Information Services.
