Introducing your new Student Service Centres

February 3rd, 2016

The University has announced plans to introduce a number of new and improved student service centres, increasing access to key services for students across all UK campuses.

From 1 August 2016, there will be a total of five local service centres; two at University Park, one at QMC, one at Jubilee Campus and one at Sutton Bonington Campus. The Derby Course and Student Centre at Royal Derby Hospital will also remain in place.

The new developments form just part of the University’s core strategy to provide excellence in education and student life and follow the recent introduction of a new model for student service delivery headed up by Breda Walls, Chief Student Management Officer.

A large part of this reorganisation is aimed at providing a consistently high service to all students across the University, no matter where they are.

Breda said, “The new service centres will mean that students have easier access to many services wherever they are, combining a wide range of support that has previously been scattered across our campuses. Any student can use any centre.”

MyNottingham – a new online system

As well as increasing access and consistency of service across all campuses, a new online system is also due for launch – providing access to a range of student services online from any device, at any time. MyNottingham will be a personalised online system tailored to the individual student experience and providing access to module information, fees and finances, academic results, a range of student support and more. More details about MyNottingham will be available soon.

Construction of the new facilities will start in February 2016 and they will be completed in time for opening on 1 August 2016. To minimise any disruption, the current Student Service Centres will remain open and fully operational until that date.

How will students based at City Hospital Nottingham be better served by these new developments ?

Dear David,

Thank you for your comment. The reorganisation of Student Services will bring about a number of changes, not least of all the new online system MyNottingham. This system will mean that all students have the ability to make a range of service/support requests online, without having to go to a service centre or support office, whether they are full time undergraduates, part-time master’s students or distance learners. Of course, students will be able to access Service Centres should they wish and will be able to do this at any location.

The student support office at City Hospital will still deliver specialist local services as well as being better integrated into the broader Student Services department.

How will this impact on the student services offered within individual Schools and Faculties? As I’m sure you are aware if individuals had a query on exams etc, they would go to their School as the first port of call. How do you envisage this reforms affecting support services offered by Schools currently?

Hi Frank, thanks for your question.

As far as student services being offered in Schools, it is likely that the vast majority of this administrative support will now be offered and accessed via the new Student Service Centres. The new Student Services team is made up of a large number of the staff currently offering this level of support at a faculty, school or departmental level.

Students should still be able to access the same support, only the new Student Service Centres would be the first port of call the most queries.
