New Director of International Office to join this summer

The University has appointed a new International Office Director to drive forward its ambitious plans to increase overseas student recruitment and forge new global partnerships.

John Quirk was selected for his breadth of international experience in UK higher education and will support ‘Britain’s Global University’ as it implements a new five-year internationalisation strategy.

Most recently he was Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for International Development and Director of the Academic Partnership Unit at Coventry University.

For the last year, Mr Quirk has overseen the implementation and delivery of the institution’s global partnership strategy, with particular focus on increasing activity in Europe and Asia.

Mr Quirk was Director of International Affairs for the University of Central Lancashire for six years before this and is a former Director of the International Office at the University of Liverpool.

At Nottingham, Mr Quirk will lead on global engagement; international student recruitment; transnational education initiatives; overseas partner and sponsor relationships; study abroad, exchange and scholarship programmes and support for the University’s two major overseas campuses in Semeniyh, Malaysia and Ningbo, China. He takes up post on 17 August 2015.

Professor Hai-Sui Yu, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Internationalisation, The University of Nottingham, said: “With internationalisation in our DNA, we are delighted to have appointed a director who shares our strategic ambition to continue growing our global presence and impact in the coming years.”

Mr Quirk said: “The University of Nottingham is already at the forefront of internationalisation amongst all UK universities, and I am delighted to be joining it to lead such a strong team as the new internationalisation strategy is launched.”
