Internal barriers removed from University Park campus

March 28th, 2023

The A52 Derby Road gas works are now complete and the university has re-opened the internal barriers on University Park campus.

The barriers were in place for 10 weeks, during which the Security team advised more than 4,000 people at the barriers, which saw around 10,000 cars turning around in advance of the barriers.

Whilst causing some local disruption, the barriers mitigated the more serious impacts of the Derby Road closure and managed to prevent non-university traffic cutting through the campus.

This had a noticeable and significant benefit to safety on campus and the student experience, particularly in the area around Djanogly Terrace.

We’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during the works.

All HopperBus services have now resumed their regular timetables around University Park.

Work has also begun to improve the main visitor car park on University Park, which may result in reduced capacity until June.
