Diversity festival 2022 is here – Monday 13 to Friday 24 June

Our diversity festival launches today (13 June) with a launch video, stalls, performances and a language cafe featuring Robert Mokaya, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Global Engagement and Ife Oyedeji, 2022–2023 Students’ Union Liberation Officer.

Inclusive leadership: leading by example

Our diversity festival keynote event on Monday 20 June, 1300 to 1430 shines a light on inclusive leadership featuring videos from alumni and a virtual panel chaired by Katherine Linehan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and People exploring their career and life experiences, their personal stories and how being an inclusive leader can enhance your career journey.

Sphere Conference 2022: EDI change in action

Our 2022 Sphere Conference, chaired by Professor Raheela Khan, takes place on Thursday 23 June, 0930 to 1230 and aims to bring the university community together to share best practice and research in the field of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

Our local events include:

Equality, diversity and inclusion: doing what you can where you are, a thoughtful, honest and supportive conversation around the challenges of ‘doing EDI’ in the postgraduate space, empowering participants to take ownership of doing what you can where you are to make a difference.

What does neurodiversity look like in person? features staff and students of Computer Science sharing stories and information around neurodiversity, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD or Autism Spectrum Condition), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and related conditions.

Being an active bystander explores who is an active bystander, and the role they play in creating a safe, supportive, inclusive community.

Panya Banjoko, a multi-award-winning poet, archivist, patron for Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature and the founder of the Black Writers Network based in Nottingham, hosts an EDI reading group discussing poems featured in her new collection of poems coming out on 22 June.

Bearing the unbearable supports staff touched by issues of fertility, pregnancy loss including through TFMR, child loss or unchosen childlessness, offering a session to share experiences, offer mutual support, and learn more about local, national and University resources and events that may be of help or interest.

How can you get involved?

Bring in food that reflects your cultural heritage, wear clothing, jewellery or makeup that speaks to your culture or arrange sessions to tell stories and exchange ideas about your culture and heritage.
