Honorary degrees – nominations now open

June 7th, 2021

Each year, the university awards a small number of honorary degrees to people who have made an outstanding contribution in their chosen field.

Nominations for this year’s honorary degrees are now open. Staff and students at the university are invited to put forward their suggestions.

The award of an honorary degree is a significant marker of prestige at the university and the process of selection is taken extremely seriously.

Nominations should be submitted in confidence and will be considered by the Honorary Degrees Committee at its next meeting. In order to be considered at the forthcoming meeting nominations will need to be received by Thursday 17 June 2021.

The guidance on Honorary Degrees sets out some criteria to be considered when making a nomination.

The Honorary Degrees Committee is committed to securing a diverse range of nominations. Please do consider this when proposing candidates for awards.

Nominators should set out who will be responsible for maintaining an ongoing relationship when submitting a nomination so that clear communications can be sustained.

As much detail as possible about the nominee and their suitability for an award should be provided on the nomination form. This will help the Committee in deciding upon appropriate recipients.

A completed nomination form is required for all nominations and this should be sent by email to Governance@nottingham.ac.uk, marked for the attention of Lindsey Jones.

You can find a full list of all previous honorary degree recipients here.

If you have any queries or need further information please contact Lindsey Jones, Governance Team (Governance@nottingham.ac.uk).
