Zerogravity Brewing logo competition

April 11th, 2016

Want to show off your creative side? Take part in a competition to create a logo for a new beer and you could win a range of prizes.

A group of MSc Brewing Science and Practice students are producing a 3,000 litre commercial batch of beer – “Zerogravity Brewing” – and are offering UoN students the chance to get involved in designing:

  • a logo for the beer
  • a label for the beer tap handle

There is no set theme, so feel free to get creative!

The group’s final product will go on sale in July in local pubs, so the winning logo will be seen across Nottingham. As well as the experience, you will also receive:

  • an invitation and participation to the launch event in July with two free drinks
  • an official Zerogravity Brewing t-shirt
  • a brew day with the team to learn how to homebrew
  • an interview on the Zerogravity Brewing website with a link to your LinkedIn profile

To enter, send a design of the logo and a sketch of the beer tap handle to zerogravitybrewing@gmail.com by Sunday 1 May. Please include your full name, course and student ID number. A panel of judges will select a winning design. The competition winner will then design the final beer tap handle label by Wednesday 15 June, when the beer recipe and name will be finalised.

If you have any questions, please email zerogravitybrewing@gmail.com. You can also find the group on Facebook and Twitter.

You know, I never did understand what was wrong with actually just paying people for their work instead of fobbing them off with “experience” and prizes.

Dear Matthew,
It’s Stef of the zerogravity team. I understand your point but I’d like to let you know that we are students as well and we are not paid for doing this project. Nevertheless, we do it with enthusiasm as we believe in it!

Unfortunately, we don’t have a budget so we cannot pay people for their job.
We tried to offer some good prices to incentive students to participate and I think that it is a good opportunity for people to show their talent.

We hope that you’ll change your mind on this competition and decide to take part to it.
Cheers,
zerogravity brewing team

Would you consider opening this competition to Nottingham Trent University students? Obviously they have excellent students at undergraduate and masters level studying Graphic Design whose expertise is specifically in designing such things. In fact, I know of one Masters student at NTU whose project is around design for Beers!
