‘Keep it on Campus’ — Staff encouraged to consider campus-based venues

February 6th, 2018

Are you familiar with the meeting and conference venues located around our campuses?

Throughout our Nottingham campuses we have a wide selection of University-owned conference and events spaces, including:

  • Over 500 meeting spaces, teaching rooms and lecture theatres (up to 550 capacity), as well as more than 4000 bedrooms
  • East Midlands Conference Centre (EMCC): 21 event spaces and 2002 m² exhibition space
  • Orchard Hotel: Four meeting rooms and an executive lounge, Brailsford suite, Bramleys Brasserie and 202 bedrooms
  • Jubilee Conference Centre: Eight event spaces, Spokes restaurant and 95 bedrooms

All internal staff and team members who manage venue bookings are being encouraged to consider using campus-based venues as a way of helping to promote the University and reducing expenditure on external facilities.

The message stems from a recent procedural requirement — introduced by the Financial Stability Task Force — for staff to contact Nottingham Conferences, the University’s in-house conference department, to ascertain if an internal venue option can be offered at an equivalent or lower cost than an external venue.

Overall, the budget holder remains accountable for achieving good value from all University expenditure whilst retaining the discretion to make the decision to use either internal or external venues.
