Nottingham’s got talent

February 3rd, 2011

A new series of the highly popular Nottingham Talent Roadshows begins this month, February, to showcase the University’s research to alumni, friends and supporters all over the UK.

Now in their third year, the Talent Roadshows have taken Nottingham’s talent on tour to major regional centres around the UK as well as China, Malaysia and the USA. This year the series starts at home at the University on Tuesday, 1 February, before visiting London on 31 March and Sheffield and Bristol later in the year.

The roadshows not only highlight how Nottingham researchers are making a major impact on global challenges, they are an ideal opportunity for alumni living further afield to catch up on the latest University developments, to meet the Vice-Chancellor Professor David Greenaway and to network with fellow alumni living in their area.

The events are almost always held at historic venues — previous roadshows have welcomed guests to Bonham’s Auction House and The Royal Society in London, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, Liverpool Town Hall, Manchester Art Gallery and The Senedd on Cardiff’s waterfront.

As well drinks and canapés, guests enjoy two taster lectures from the ranks of the University’s talented academic researchers, followed by a question and answer session.

At the Nottingham event on 1 February, presentations were taking place in the Senate Chamber. Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer, Head of Energy and Sustainability Research Division, and Director of CICCS, will talk about “Carbon Capture and Storage: Unlocking the opportunities to mitigate climate change”, while Professor Saul Becker, Head of the School of Sociology and Social Policy, presents “Young Carers: The ‘hidden army’ of children who care for parents and other family members”.

The events are free but places are limited. Registration and further details are available at http://tiny.cc/6afzg.
